A great concept, with great food, let down by poor service.
For as little as 11 EURs, you can choose at least two dumplings from a great range of options, including 4 vegetarian choices. They're served with a lovely salad which is an actual positive addition to the meal, not just an afterthought.
The service by one of our servers was friendly (the other one less so), but overall unacceptably slow. We had to wave over the waiter to place our order despite there being only 6 tables of no more than 4 in the whole restaurant, and three waiters at this point. After we finished our food, we initially waited for our plates to be cleared but after 20 minutes it was clear this wasn't going to happen. We waved over a waiter as we also wanted to order dessert, but she took our order and said she'd be back for the plates. At the same time we'd ordered a glass of wine for one member of our party, which was poured relatively quickly (within 5 minutes) but was left to sit on the bar for a further 5, before we again had to flag down a waiter (who was stood at the bar on their phone) to ask if we could have the wine brought over. They took three of the plates on our table, but left one, saying they'd be back. 20 minutes later, when dessert arrived, the waiter had to ask us to lift the remaining dirty dish on our table so they could serve the dessert, after which they removed it. We waited 15 minutes at the end to serve (more fool us, we should have learnt by this point) but eventually had to flag the waiter again to pay.
Overall, we spent 2.5 hours in a restaurant where four of us ate two courses, and spent over an hour with nothing but dirty, empty plates on our table. I would like to say they were perhaps understaffed, but during this time there was regular occasions where the waiting staff were simply stood at the bar on their phones or talking to each other.
The food is tasty, and good value for money, but we wouldn't recommend it until the...
Read moreMy absolute favorite restaurant in Berlin! My first visit to Knödelwirtschaft was actually 7 years ago (the Neukoln/south location) when I was last in Berlin, and I have thought fondly about my meal there ever since. I had the pleasure of visiting Berlin again last week and coming back to this restaurant was my top priority. I went to both locations and the Prenzlauer Berg location is fantastic!
This time I ordered the 2 dumpling plate with a cheese dumpling + a saffron fennel dumpling (this was the special dumpling of the day). Both dumplings were incredible as expected- the saffron fennel was my favorite. The salad is delicious too. My friend ordered the 2 dumpling plate as well, with a spinach dumpling and a cheese dumpling. It was the perfect meal to enjoy together on a cozy evening in Berlin.
In addition to the yummy knödels, the atmosphere is modern and charming and the staff are very warm and welcoming. I love this restaurant because even as visitors from New York, it gives the feeling of dining as a local at home in your own neighborhood.
I highly recommend Knödelwirtschaft (both this location and the other location which I also visited last week) to anyone looking for a delicious and memorable meal in Berlin. I am already looking forward to my...
Read moreHair in the food, dismissive service.
Before the food arrived, the first drink order came incorrect, and instead of just taking the beer that we did not order back to the bar, the waiter asked if we could take it anyway (not on the house ).
the food arrived, first thing I saw when cutting into the dumpling was a full hair (!!!) right in the dough, I calmly pulled the hair out of the dumpling and took the plate to the bar, asking to replace my order ( even though my appetite was not there already due to the hair)
There was no particular attention from the staff in that regards, they have just brought another plate and extra sauce, that is it.
There was another drink order that was ignored and was never brought.
When it was time to pay and leave we had to come up and ask even though it was clear that we were ready to pay, trying to catch staffs attention.
Seating in the middle, it was very staffy and hot, the ceiling fans were only by the entrance that had opened windows and doors.
Sadly disappointing experience for what the establishment is offering...
