This is one of the touristy German restaurants in Berlin, currently in the middle of a construction site at the Sony Center. The food is typical German but mediocre in terms of taste. The best reason to come here is show the 1st-comers what is German food. It does provide some IG-worthy photo opportunities.
In terms of service, would say, without exaggeration, it is a place of shame for the city Berlin, if not the entire country. Not once we and our foreign friends were treated poorly here. The latest time was the last weekend.
I made a reservation for eight persons two weeks in advance but when we got there, we found our invited guests also brought their friends, which required a table of 11 instead. We were thinking to break into two tables (there were still many unreserved tables out there). But before we had a chance to request anything, one of the waiters (not the one responsible for our table at all) looked very angry, bringing us another table while blaming us loudly for changing the numbers of guests.
As I tried to explain the reason to him in lower voice, not to let our guests hear, he raised his voice saying “I’ve been working in this industry for 24 years” as he had all the legitimacy to believe we were lying to get another table.
This attitude and behaviour is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Given the fact there are still many tables not taken, shall we be sorry for bringing more business there? Even if the restaurant prefers to leave the tables empty, it has the right to refuse to serve us, but kindly and politely. There is no need to be angry and rude to customers, and even assert we are lying to just get a table (we can easily find another better place to eat than taking this kind of treatment)
Since some of our guests already ordered food and our own waiter was actually very kind and considerate, we decided to stay and finished the dinner and give decent tips to our waiter for serving such a big table.
However, this individual’s behaviour did scar all of us and left our guests bad impression about the service in Berlin and Germany.
I don’t know how such a person survives this industry for 24 years, and why the restaurant tolerates this kind of outrageous behaviour for so long (we were told he is even a manager here). We will definitely not go back there and advise people not to go if you want nice food and...
Read moreIt was the single worst dining experience I’ve ever had.
I got to the restaurant at around 5:10pm by myself and was seated in the corner of the restaurant. The waitress started off pretty friendly to help with my order.
After I got my coke and potato soup, I sat there for 40 minutes and slowly sipped on my drinks.
The waitress clearly didn’t care about her service because as she was getting ready to help the table next to me (40 min after I got my soup), she realized my table was empty and causally asked “oh haven’t they served you food?” I replied “no.”
People say good things take time so you would’ve thought the dish could be pretty appetizing. Upon receiving my Roasted Leberkäse, three quarters of the edge area of the plate was covered with greasy finger prints. 🚩🤮
The dish was basically some raw lettuce, potato salad, a meat loaf with an egg. Unless their secret sauce is to wait 40 minutes, I don’t see any reason why I had to wait that long to get my food.
I was traveling all day and this was my first proper meal. So sadly I had to force myself to finish the food or else I was pretty tempted to just leave the restaurant after seeing the insane amount of greasy finger prints.
Now, you would’ve thought the only way is up from this point onwards. But unfortunately I waited another 20 minutes just to catch my waitress attention so I can get the check and leave asap.
But hey she got me the check and the payment terminal within 30 seconds. Impressive.
She asked for me to click on how much I want to tip and complete the payment, I recognize one of the few German I knew and clicked “nein.” She didn’t seem to care because she knew there was practically no service given at all...
Read moreFirstly, we came because YJH (SVT) came so we also came. Food tasted good. But service was debatable. Despite it not being busy at all compared to other places we’ve been in Berlin and other customers mainly only ordering drinks. It took 40+ minutes for our dishes to come out after ordering.. Additionally when ordering staff were not attentive. We raised our hands numerous times and it went unnoticed. We had to actively call them. We sat in a visible area with the tables around us being quite vocal and they were walking around.. 🤨 When ordering the staff was also not very helpful in the sense of not giving recommendations as he said “his taste is different from ours”, understandable but still maybe your favorite one or what is popular?? Then, when paying we could choose if we wanted to give a tip option. We tapped the no tip button due to our unsatisfaction with the speed and feeling not welcome. Then he continued to ask no tip? Why? I replied “we waited 40+ minutes, it is quite slow” He said “McDonalds is fast.” To which we laughed it off… I did not mean it like that and I felt he was making fun and ironically questioning our answer and mentally rolling his eyes. At other places we visited they usually do not ask why you give a tip or not give one and let you chose freely in the sense that they look away when you are paying (our experience). I don’t think it’s the average speed of restaurants in this city that are like this as other restaurants we visited - similar to this pub style had no problem and we had a blast. Would not come here again despite the quite tasty food and...
