I had the fortunate experience of staying at the JW Marriott Berlin over the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States i.e. 3 nights late Nov into early Dec.
The hotel is about a 35 minute taxi from the airport. It’s location is prime on the edge of the well-known Tiergarten AKA as Berlin’s lungs due to its mature foliage. In addition the hotel is within an easy walk to the National Galley as well as the Philharmonic and other cultural gems.
Arrival: We arrived around 9:00 AM as not uncommon arrival from the United States. Reception had our reservation. We had emailed reception with our Marriott membership # prior and advisement of early arrival. While the email seemed not to be received, no concern as the front desk recoded the information and advised we were upgraded to a suite and the room was available immediately. The upgrade was unexpected. Between the upgrade and the early access to the room we were grateful.
The reception and lobby area is large and opulent. On one side of the lobby area is a well-respected local steak house. On the other side a bakery/coffee entity, both with exterior entrances. In the lobby was a nice café seating area with a small concession of coffee’s, liquors and desserts. With the open-atrium design reception and common areas have a luxury orientation.
Our room or I should advise suite was on the 2nd level. The 2nd level is where many meeting rooms are location. However there is a corridor of suites I assume oriented to the reception rooms. Walking in we were in disbelief….
Opening the door to the room is a reception hallway. Yes a hallway! As you enter, to the left was an entry to a dual-door water closet i.e. toilet and sink. Beyond is the door to the bedroom. As walking down the hall, there is a coat closet and then opens to a large room with a full dining suite and expansive living room and a writing desk area. No exaggeration, the suite was easily 1000+ SF/ 92 SM!
The living/dining room of the suite has floor to ceiling windows overlooking a quiet charming street across from a historic academic building. There is no road noise as the road is limited use. Adjacent to the dining area which seats 4-6, there was a coffee bar set-up. Below the entertainment unit, a bar refrigerator.
The bedroom was large with a king bed which my wife advised offered one of the most comfortable beds in recent memory. Again floor to ceiling windows with black out shades. Large dresser, flat screen and large wardrobe inclusive of robes/slippers, personal safe and laundry service.
The bathroom was the crown jewel. Expansive is being conservative. The floors are heated. Towel bars are heated. There is a separate shower stall and deep, sunken bathtub. A large double vanity, excellent lighting, blow dryer and upmarket toiletries.
As mentioned the water closet and additional sink has dual entry from the bathroom as well as the hallway for guests. Thus was also a nice design when one is sleeping in the bedroom as can access bathroom from hallway.
Food: We immensely enjoyed the breakfast buffet which is provided on the 2nd level. As with other JW’s expansive options with an international orientation. Highlights include the fresh honey from an actual honeycomb. Of course, a made-to-order egg station, Expansive selections of fruits, cold cuts, yogurts, juices and so forth. The buffet was continuously refreshed, you will not be disappointed.
Amenities: The workout area is a nice complement to the hotel, well designed and equipped. The hotel also has a small indoor pool which is a great amenity esp. during the colder months in Berlin.
To be honest we did not explore beyond the above. I am assuming I am missing some amenities however being there for 3 nights with an early departure and being out touring and so forth……With that mentioned, there are many luxury hotels in Berlin, however if looking for nice, quiet location, adjacent to the Tiergarten and as mentioned walking distance to a few major cultural institutions as well as Potsdamer Platz, a strong option for your...

Check-in was smooth and welcoming, with the reception team making us feel immediately at home. Their attentiveness and professionalism set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable six-night stay.
We stayed in a Classic Twin Room, and it exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious, with ample storage to keep everything organized during our stay. Housekeeping was impeccable, ensuring our room was spotless daily. We were especially delighted by the thoughtful turn-down service, particularly on Christmas Day, when we found charming red slippers waiting for us—a small but special touch that made our stay even more magical.
The lobby bar was another highlight of our visit. A special thank you to the lovely lady who greeted us with a warm smile each time we came down the lift—it’s those little moments of genuine hospitality that truly stand out.
We are incredibly grateful to Gina, who took time to sit with us and share wonderful recommendations for exploring Berlin. Her insights and warmth made our experience in the city so much richer. Gina is an all-round star, and her dedication to creating memorable guest experiences truly shines.
Dining at the JW Steakhouse was an absolute treat. The food and drinks were outstanding—10/10! The rib-eye steak and lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were indulgently creamy, and the JW Steakhouse Salad was a refreshing delight. The staff were incredibly helpful, guiding us through the menu with care and expertise. The atmosphere in the restaurant was equally remarkable—elegant, inviting, and perfect for an evening of indulgence.
The hotel’s facilities are another reason to visit. The gym is well-equipped, and the pool is a must-see, especially at night. Swimming under the glass roof while gazing at the stars was a unique and serene experience that we will never forget.
As Marriott Bonvoy members, we had access to the Executive Lounge, which was hands-down the highlight of our stay. The daily spread of food was consistently excellent, with no two days the same. The chefs deserve immense praise for their creativity and bold flavors. Every bite was a delight!
The Executive Lounge team also deserves special recognition. Jenny greeted us with warmth and ensured our glasses were always full—a small gesture that made us feel truly valued. Shenique’s city recommendations and daily kindness made us feel like we were staying with friends. Filip, with his genuine conversation and above-and-beyond service, left a lasting impression. He checked in with us frequently to ensure we were happy and comfortable—a true credit to the team.
Breakfast at the JW Marriott Berlin is another standout experience. With an impressive array of fresh options, it set the perfect tone for our days. The chefs were outstanding, whipping up freshly made omelets and eggs to order. The freshly squeezed orange juice was the best we’ve ever had! A special shoutout to Mark, whose friendly demeanor and dedication to ensuring guests had everything they needed made breakfast all the more enjoyable.
Overall, our stay at the JW Marriott Berlin was nothing short of phenomenal. The staff went above and beyond to make our Christmas break special. Each team member, from Mark and Filip to Gina, Jenny, Shenique, and Mustapha, played a role in creating a warm, welcoming, and memorable experience.
Thank you, JW Marriott Berlin, for making this Christmas a truly magical one. Your team is a credit to your brand, and we can’t...
Read moreI went to this hotel back in late February. I booked around 2 weeks in advance, and got a decently good deal through the Marriott App, at around 120€/Night.
Arrival at the hotel could barely have gone any better; I was early, and was very much prepared to wait until my room was fully set and cleaned. Thankfully, Marriott tries to accommodate early arrivals by allowing travellers to set their estimated time of check-in in the aforementioned app, and while this feature sadly does not always work successfully, in this case, it did. I was also offered a late checkout, which I gladly agreed to.
The room I booked was the "Classic Guest Room, 1 King" on the 5th floor. Accessing it is simple, since the room numbers are clearly indicated in the hallways, and the rooms are locked by the usual key card.
Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a room that is very reminiscent of classic 5 star business hotels. A large, wooden closet is the first thing that comes into view upon entering the room. Featuring a large mirror, various coat hangers, very comfy slippers, bath robes, a vitrine with water bottles inside, and an ironing board, it doesn't disappoint. Moving further into the room, the desk and bed fall into view. The desk is adorned with the typical pen and paper, as well as convenient power outlets. The chair in front of the desk, while slightly uncomfortable after a while, does its' job well, and fits the general classy theme.
Turning away from the desk and onto the bed, it's very clear that, unlike a lot of hotels, Marriott does provide proper king sized mattresses, and doesn't just push two single sized beds together. The bed itself is soft, and as are the pillows, though you can order variations of the latter from reception.
The bathroom, which is perpendicular to the main entrance, is rather average sized, and is equipped with a bathtub, shower, toilet and a few amenities that can be requested before arrival via app or call.
The room also features a large window, spanning the entire width of the room, a fridge, various smaller closets/drawers, air conditioning, and room service. There's also two more chairs and a short table, which also comes with a book on the architecture of Berlin.
In terms of noise, you can barely hear anything, not from your neighbors, nor from the nearby traffic.
I cannot currently comment on the quality of room service, but the catering is provided by the JW Steakhouse, which does seem to have a good reputation.
Sleeping in the room was very much enjoyable; the bed was very comfy, and getting up was easier thanks to the inclusion of proper air conditioning.
Before going for breakfast, I took a shower and went to swim in the pool. The water was very warm by pool standards, but not unpleasantly so. It was very easy to get in, and to get out, though that is rather subjective. The locker rooms were clean, and so was the pool.
Going for breakfast was an experience of its' own; a lot of luxury products, including secco, that are atypical for german hotels, are present here. The selection is vast, even featuring an english breakfast, and the quality of the food was outstanding.
Checking out was as simple as it gets, and late checkout worked without a hitch.
All-in-all, a great hotel. Clean, classy rooms, great breakfast, great pool and great staff. Recommended for anyone...
