Rooftop One Bar Berlin-Upper West — Restaurant in Berlin

I visited here with 3 friends during August 2025. The rooftop location is amazing, amazing views, the cocktails are really good, but the service was incredibly slow.

At this point, it would be easy to criticize the staff, but actually, this isn't the problem. My friends work (and run) hotels/restaurants, and it was obvious that Motel One simply don't have enough staff. They would've needed (at least) an extra two people, and to change the configuration of how the staff were working. Making cocktails takes time... but their staff organisation didn't reflect this correctly.

This location is a cash-cow, it should be full and making loads of money. The reality was that they had to close off part of the rooftop area, as they weren't even able to cope with the customers in the area which was open (and we overheard the staff discussing this). During the hour we were there, we saw numerous potential customers arriving, looking around for a table, getting to the "roped-off" closed area, then turning around and walking out again.

This is a case of poor management, rather than poor customer service.

And reading the other Google reviews, going back several years, this seems to be always the most common complaint. Great staff, but they're way too busy, resulting in a horribly slow service.

Great location, hopeless management.

Btw, even Motel One's link on Google is broken and shows a 404 error (I can't quote the URL, as it blocks me posting this review).

I hope someone from Motel One is listening.

(Btw, Monkey Bar had exactly the same issue. Partly closed off area on the rooftop, customers arriving, looking around and leaving, and plenty of customers with empty tables waiting...

Can't believe there is a bouncer for a hotel bar :) we were there yesterday evening, all dressed up and we made a call asking about reservation. The lady told us we can't, and just come by and usually it's no problem to go to the bar. We went, literally only in front of motel one, the guy standing there at the hotel entrance did not even hesitate for 2 seconds, just said nope we cannot go in. I highly suggest everyone to turn their head away and walk straight to Waldorf Astoria, they have a rooftop bar too! Other than that, you can also just visit Monkey Bar, Grace Bar or Van...
