FOOD & DRINKS I decided to eat here when I saw the menu. Most Vietnamese restaurants don’t have that much diversity and authentic items. I went for a braised and caramelized fish in a clay pot and for dessert I chose a traditional Che Thap Cam. The fish was soft but it wasn’t braised long enough. The sauce was very runny and not caramelized enough to my liking. On top of that there was no chili or pepper in my dish. They gave me some fresh chilis when I asked them and it helped but it is different when you braise it with the chili. The chilis were on the menu picture and in the item description. Taste was pretty authentic though. My dessert was good but they were quite stingy with the mung beans which gives the dessert a smooth texture to all the springy jelly.
SERVICE Service was ok.
ATMOSPHERE A mix between modern and traditional elements. Someone did a fine job with the interior design.
RATING Despite the issues I had, I can vouch for the authentic flavors. At least for the dishes I had. Plus there were many Vietnamese customers who unfortunately either didn't care about COVID rules or were just too cool to wear face masks while moving around inside the restaurant. There are many things that can be approved but I still decided to give them four stars because they offer a lot of authentic dishes and my...
Read moreA contender for my favorite restaurant and Berlin. You've been (or are being) forewarned... It's a no-frills establishment, so don't expect the kind of decor and service that you'd receive in a Vietnamese restaurant in prenzlauerberg or mitte. With that being said, the food is amazing. Being Vietnamese, I can truly vouch for a few items on the menu. 1. The Vietnamese crepes (banh xeo). I had a visitor in town from Los Angeles--the vietnamese dining scene there is great. He had the banh xeo here and insisted that we go for every meal..I don't even blame him... 2. The clay pot anything (thit kho, ca kho)-- you don't usually see this dish in restaurants as it's more of a home-y dish that your mom would make. 3. Pho--it's not the best in Berlin, but it's pretty solid. And lastly, the dessert! I personally love che Thai as it has durian in it, but it's a lovely coconut milk dessert with fun jellies.
I want to say that this is a place where the entire menu is so solid that you can't go wrong, but you can. But definitely give this place a shot--stick to what you (or I guess I) know, and you won't be...
Read moreThe food was incredible! So much flavour and texture, and the service was super friendly, fast, and attentive. A (Vietnamese) friend recommended this restaurant to us, and I am glad to have tried it out. The interior is also very beautiful and cozy (despite the place being quite large). This is my new go-to Vietnamese place in town.
I would also recommend you to try something new here. We had the "bún thit nu'óng chà giò sài gòn", and the Vietnamese pancake. It was absolutely delicious and crunchy!
BUT: save some space for desserts! You will find some authentic sweet drinks that all south east Asians will recognize. This was such a nice surprise: we ordered the pandan jelly in coconut milk; and the longan drink. They were soooo good (and...
