Strongly recommend spot.
Wide cocktail offer - surely everybody will find something for themselves. Prices are adequate to quality. Drinks are very honest - the bar doesn't cheat on ingredients, there is right amount of alcohol. An order is served beautifully.
As for food there is not much to select from - I think carpaccio, cheese plate and Flammkuchen. Last position is the best - warm pastry covered with heavy cream and onion, served with extras (mushrooms or bacon). A thing worth trying as it is typical German dish.
Cool atmosphere. Interior is full of paintings (Van Gogh and others), tastefully arranged. I personally loved wooden old tables with candles on it. Dimmed lights give a really intimate feeling.
Other thing worth mentioning is definitely music. It is live jazz even during a week. I had a chance to listen to piano and saxophone.
Non-smoking bar.
I personally liked the most dark haired slim waiter (sorry, I forgot the name). Competent, kind, able to "tailor" an offer to your needs.
A little minus: waiting time for your order.

Read moreThe service is incompetent and inattentive. Yes maybe you have a big crowd of customers but this is not an excuse when your customers waited for more than half an hour for a drink, before the first drinks come, they presented a wrong bill to us to pay, then tried to give us the wrong change while apparently they don’t have a system of remembering which table is which. The guy ordered for us and somehow gave us a wrong bill within 10 minutes! The woman is more horrible - gave us a unhelpful response when we asked for drinks if they can be served more attentively. No service attitude whatsoever. In case you wonder about the drinks, I had a French 75, not even close to average. Plain, underwhelming and sweet. It’s a drink that is supposed to be made out of gin and champagne. However, I only taste syrup. Never again. Yea it’s tough review but I’m speaking...
Read moreHow hard is it to ruin a cool-looking piano bar? Apparently not hard at all at Van Gogh. The love in the place left with the designers, to then be sunk by indifferent service, non-descript drinks, horrific piano singer, and painfully bad music in the interludes between the bad piano singer. Inexplicable rave reviews.
The place DOES look cool at first glance, but the crowd, cafeteria vibe, and overall lack of love, quickly torpedo the establishment. Van Gogh is a middling hotel bar with a piano thrown in a corner rather than an actual piano bar. We really wanted to like the place as we are often in the neighborhood, but one visit was more than enough. As a note - could the place have been better in years gone by? We noticed most of the crowd on a Saturday night seemed to be hotel guests with no local fans. Anyway, hard to love what is...
