Waldschänke Zoo Berlin — Restaurant in Berlin

Today I visited the zoo and I decided not to have breakfast at home but to have breakfast at the zoo in this cafe. So I didn't take any food with me. I came here at 10:30 and I was really hungry. There was a lot of food but there weren't any prices! I had to find a worker and I asked her how I could choose dishes without prices. I asked 2 people but they couldn't help me. The 3rd person could explain me that I had to ask a worker a price of every dish. It was so inconvenient. No prices. You had to ask the price of every dish. I was so hungry and stressed because of the situation that I ended up standing in the cafe crying. There was a lot of delicious food around me but I didn't know the prices so I couldn't order anything. I didn't order anything. It was one of the worst experiences in my life. 😧

Die umgebaute Waldschänke ist wirklich schön und modern eingerichtet. Erwischt man einen Platz unter den Dekorationen an der Wand, sieht man allerdings schnell, dass diese mit dicken Staubschichten überzogen sind. Wir waren zum Frühstücksbuffet hier (17,90€ pro Person). Dass es das gibt, ist eine tolle Idee! Sehr schade ist, dass man sich am warmen Buffet nicht selbst nehmen kann (Rührei, Würstchen, Speck...). Als mir mein Teller beladen wurde, bat ich mehrfach um kleinere Portionen. Das kommentierte der Service nur mit "Ach, Sie haben ja bis 11 Uhr Zeit, das aufzuessen" und schaufelte weiter meinen Teller voll. So mussten wir, trotz mehreren Mitessenden, leider einiges an Resten zurücklassen. Auch vom in Gläser portionierten Joghurt haben wir zu zweit gegessen. Mir haben die warmen Speisen gut geschmeckt. Dafür, dass hier viele Kinder herkommen, sind sie aber sehr pikant gewürzt (viel Pfeffer in den Eierspeisen, Paprika-Marinade bei den Kartoffeln) & die Spiegeleier waren enorm salzig. Das kalte Buffet ist ziemlich basic. An Brötchen gibt es 2 Sorten günstigste Weizen-Aufbackbrötchen sowie Brezeln. Gemüse gibt es nur als Salat, Obst in Form von Melonenscheiben. Sonst vor allem viel Süßes (die üblichen TK Muffins, Donuts, Plunderbrezeln; zuckerhaltiges Müsli). Zum Räucherlachs wäre eine passende Sauce oder Meerrettich nett gewesen. An Getränken sind Tee, Kaffee und ein Glas Saft pro Person inklusive. Leitungswasser wäre noch schön. Und die Kaffeebecher sind etwas ungünstig aufgestellt; auf den Maschinen stehen "Recup"-Pfandbecher, die gar nicht für den Frühstücksbetrieb gedacht sind, zu denen man aber automatisch greift, wenn man sich nicht auskennt. Nur um vom Personal scharf darauf hingewiesen zu werden, dass diese aber extra kosten. Die Porzellantassen standen etwas abseits in einem Geschirrwagen. Wer öfter herkommt, weiß das sicher. Für Neulinge wäre ein Hinweis nett. Übrigens ist das Foto zum Frühstücksbuffet auf der Zoo-Website etwas irreführend, denn es zeigt nicht das hier angebotene Frühstück, sondern ein deutlich hochwertigeres; dient wohl nur dazu,...

I paid 21.8 euros for a gulasch soup that was not really good, and a mashed potato with meatballs and sauce that was very bad. The sauce was very salty and bad consistency. The mashed potatoes were very bland and some potatoes were not cooked enough. I hope the meatballs were cooked properly because one of it was really pink inside.

The gulasch tasted like watered up ketchup with a weird assortement of vegetables.

I also find it very unfortunate, that you are not allowed to choose different sides.
