Zen Restaurant — Restaurant in Berlin

Hands down the greatest restaurant I’ve ever been in my life. Hear me out

I was a student from Singapore who was studying abroad in England from 2014-2018. Me and my friends particularly enjoyed trying out food of all cuisines and during uni holidays me and a few friends would visit as many countries in Europe to enjoy what Europe has to offer, and boy it did not disappoint.

We travelled to Berlin in January 2017, and we stayed in a local hotel right in the city. We arrived in the morning and was breezing about in the city when we discovered this Japanese fusion restaurant. At first one of my friends was reluctant to enter the place as he wanted to embrace the German food culture. Not to mention we are from Singapore, there were a tonne of Japanese restaurants in our home country, some of which were even one or two started Michelin restaurants. Nonetheless, we are pretty hungry and just went it to fill our stomachs.

I did not remember which particular sushi roll we ordered but on my life the moment we put it in in our mouths it literally melted with a burst of flavours that was so good we could not even describe it. We have been to many good Japanese restaurants but none ever came close to offering such taste. It was so good we literally ordered a few more plates. We tried their Japanese katsu curry chicken and again, the sauce was just immense and cooked so perfectly that it had the right combination of flavours that we were looking for. Not to mention, even their drinks was on point. We ordered some mock tails and every single one was made perfectly, not too sweet and it just had the right combination. This was just some random restaurant we stumbled upon in the city and never in our life have we ate or drink anything from the same place that was all perfect. We all said the same thing. The food and drinks was so good that the billed amount does not even matter. We stayed in Berlin for only 3 nights and not surprisingly we ate there every single day. Every single time we went the quality was the same and we were immensely satisfied. We probably spent about a thousand Euros just for food and drinks from here.

It was so good that I will never forget this place and hence I have made a vow to visit back this restaurant before I get married. I’m going to order as much food and drinks as I can here, enjoy it and...

It was quite difficult to find a sushi restaurant in Berlin, as most of them have mixed reviews. Therefore, I’ve decided to review this restaurant to help tourists like myself choose a good place to eat.

First, this place is amazing. It is located quite central, though you can’t hear the cars or the loud people walking in the streets (weekend). It’s perfect for a getaway from the busy metropolitan city, or for a date-night where whispering is sufficient to hear your date. I have only seen the outside of the restaurant, which is very cosy, the chairs and tables were situated underneath big parasols that had pink/purple-ish light underneath; which was quite charming.

The food was really good. There were many varieties and everything was delicious. However, for first-time comers, do notice that the makis are very small (hosomaki sized), whereas the inside-out rolls are bigger in size and price.

We had a dinner reservation, but it was completely disregarded—we were forced to wait in line with everyone else despite booking in advance. The queue was chaotic, and the entire process was disorganized.

When we were finally seated, they even suggested we share a table with another couple who were also waiting—definitely not the romantic Valentine’s dinner we had planned.

Service was an absolute disaster. After an hour we had not even been asked to place a drink order, and every table around us was waiting endlessly for food or drinks. One table near us had been waiting for two hours and still hadn’t received their meals. We eventually decided to leave because the situation was beyond unacceptable.

The staff was completely overwhelmed, running around with no clear system or communication. Guests were leaving in frustration, tickets were piling up in the kitchen, and yet there was no acknowledgment of the issues—no apology, no updates, no attempt at compensation.
