The photos showed a nice room with a city view in an Old Town style, BUT in reality it’s not what you expected.
The furniture is old, the room is dirty, the table was covered in some disgusting dirt like dried snot, and there’s a very unpleasant smell, like the carpet is either burnt or badly stained.
When I first saw the room, I immediately went to the reception and asked to change it. They allowed me to check another room, which was only slightly better – the smell was not as bad and the window view was nicer. In the first room, the windows were facing an inner courtyard, basically just walls, which was very disappointing. In the evening, when I took a shower, I discovered that the drain didn’t work at all, and the water just accumulated, leaving me standing in dirty water. I had booked not just a single or double, but a double comfort room, and yet there were still so many flaws.
There was a TV in the room, but it only showed a few random local channels, and it was impossible to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi. Although it showed that Wi-Fi was “saved”, it simply wouldn’t connect, so I couldn’t use YouTube or Netflix. I even asked the reception if someone could come and check the issue, but no one ever came, and nothing was fixed. On the second day, when I went to reception to discuss the TV, cleaning, and luggage issues, the man at the front desk told me with some feeling of passive aggressive that I “had too many questions.”
To get to the elevator, I had to drag my 25 kg suitcase up a bunch of stairs. As for toiletries, there was only one soap and one shampoo… nothing else.
After a long and exhausting flight, I was trying to rest, but around 9:30 someone just burst into my room—whether it was for cleaning or something else, I have no idea—and completely woke me up. As a result, I couldn’t get proper rest. Later, when I went out to explore the city, I informed the reception that I would be out until the evening and that they could clean my room while I was away. I specifically asked for this. They told me it would be done, but when I returned, the room was still dirty, and the coffee and water supplies had not been replenished.
Before leaving Berlin for a two-day trip to a nearby town, I asked if I could leave my suitcase at the hotel and pick it up on my return day before heading to the airport. They categorically refused, saying I could leave my luggage only for a few hours and nothing more. I never had this problem in other hotels before.
(The only good thing was that on the first day, there was a nice girl at the reception who helped me carry my 25 kg suitcase up to the...
Read moreStayed in a suite with jacuzzi bath and sauna - it was August and quite hot in Berlin so didn't use the sauna but the jacuzzi was nice once I'd worked out how to use it. Overall the room and bathroom was quite clean but there was dust, hair and a baby's dummy underneath the bed. There was a floor standing AC unit in the room which was quite noisy when running - I had to turn it off before sleeping. The room was in a different building to reception but upon check in the receptionist kindly showed me to the room so this was not really an issue. Great location with easy access to shops, restaurants and the U-bahn. Balcony was a nice addition too. Bed was big and comfy but had two single duvets / covers rather than one full width one, I'm not sure if this is usual for Berlin?I only interacted with staff during check in and check out and was treated politely and professionally each time.Overall not too bad but not quite as luxurious an experience as it could have been...
Read moreLovely small hotel where clearly someone with an artistic eye is in charge. The breakfast room is really gorgeous and the small buffet actually has quite a variety of fresh good food (at the top of my mind there were 6 varieties of cheese, same for meats, fresh breads and pastry, plus fresh fruit and vegetables). Our family room had a lot of space and even a table with 4 polstered chairs. There was negligible street noise despite facing Kurfürstendamm, but we could hear our neighbors chatting on the hallway. From peeking at other rooms it looks like each has a different feel. Staff friendly and very accommodating. Very clean rooms and corridors.
On the downside there are a lot of small imperfections which are ok for a 3-star hotel but may add up if the fine photos set up expectations of perfect luxury. Notably the hotel rooms span across two adjacent buildings and I don't think there is a step free...
