Jalapeño Mexican Food — Restaurant in Bielefeld

Went here on a random google search for a place to eat.

We were lucky, the place was packed on a Saturday night, and we went without reservation.

The place is on the 1st floor, it has plenty of room but I believe it gets crowded quickly.

We were soon located after our arrival. They were still on a valentines spirit so they were offering candy and chocolate with different shapes and mostly of red and pink colors.

We order drinks and food, drinks arrived fairly fast but food took quite some time, at the point where I checked if they did not forgot 😅 I guess I regret not ordering a small starter.

Food arrived, and it was really good, but nothing special. I liked that I could build my tacos as I pleased, that’s the most Mexican thing about this place, it actually is texican. For those who have truly experienced Mexico you would know what I’m talking about. That’s does not mean that the place is bad.

Despite the slowness, I think it is a nice place, with a good atmosphere, good music, and good food.

Wir waren zum wiederholten Male im Jalapeño und waren bisher immer sehr zufrieden, sowohl was das Essen angeht als auch den Service. Dieses mal waren wir leider nicht so zufrieden. An meinem Essen, den überbackenen Enchilada, hatte ich nichts auszusetzen, geschmacklich sehr lecker, allerdings würde ich sagen, dass die Portion kleiner geworden ist, ich war nicht wirklich satt. Das Essen für die Kids war leider eine Frechheit. Die Crispy Chicken Fingers haben ihrem Namen alle Ehre gemacht, allerdings waren diese noch essbar. Zu 90% nicht essbar waren die Pommes, auf den Fotos kann man es leider nicht so gut erkennen, aber sie waren viel zu lange in der Fritteuse. Sie waren zwar nicht schwarz aber dunkel braun. Entsprechend ist fast die ganze Portion liegen geblieben. Und hier kommen wir zum Punkt Service: leider wurde nicht einmal nachgefragt, ob alles in Ordnung ist, auch nicht ob wir noch einen Wunsch hätten (den hätten wir gehabt, nicht nur genießbare Pommes sondern auch noch eine zweite Runde Getränke). Als wir den Mitarbeiter beim Abräumen auf die Pommes angesprochen haben, kam als Ausrede: der/die ist neu in der Küche und hat keine Erfahrung. Ähmm... auch als ungelernte Aushilfskraft sollte man in der Lage sein Pommes zu zubereiten. In einer guten Küche gibt es Vorgaben wie lange die Pommes bei wie viel Grad frittiert werden, um eine gleichbleibende Qualität zu gewährleisten. Wir haben dann nach der Rechnung gefragt. Diese kam dann, zusammen mit einer frischen Portion Pommes.... das zweite "Ähmm..." Was soll das jetzt? Sollten die Kinder jetzt im nachhinein noch alleine Pommes essen? Hätte man vorher vielleicht mal fragen können. Eigentlich hatten wir auf etwas anderes gewartet, denn in der Karte steht (online nachlesbar): Unsere kleinen Gäste erhalten ein Eis gratis. Das bekommen die kleinen Gäste wohl nur wenn man explizit nachfragt. Achja, wir waren zur Mittagszeit im Restaurant, zusammen mit uns befand sich noch 1 weiterer Gast im Restaurant. Aber da kann man als Servicekraft natürlich schnell den Überblick verlieren, vor allem wenn man selber Hunger hat und das Essen und den Kaffee schon auf dem Tisch stehen hat. Ich weiß, dass wenn der Chef anwesend gewesen wäre so etwas niemals passiert wäre. Ich hatte mir mein Geburtstagsessen etwas harmonischer...

Went here with my boyfriend due to the great reviews, was very disappointed though. The drinks were fine, we got the Chiquitos for an appetizer and while the plate was very hot the food itself was borderline cold but they were still pretty decent. For main course my boyfriend got one of the enchiladas with Mexican rice, absolutely horrible. I couldn’t stand one bite and had to force it down. My burrito with the chili con carde was really good compared to that but again the food was unfortunately pretty cold when we got it. It wasn’t even busy during the time we went, there were two other couples there besides us. Our Mexican rice was also undercooked unfortunately. Went home with a cramped stomach and nausea.
