Exactly the type of classic German konditorei I was hoping to find. They appear to be few and far between in Cologne! Waitresses in black with little aprons, delicious array of cakes and pastries and good coffee. They also do light snacks and sell beer and wine but I was desperate for café und kūchen and a slice of the delicious and seasonal plum cake with whipped cream plus a cup of unfancy coffee was just the ticket. Be aware that German cakes are not so sickly sweet as most of their British counterparts.

You are spoiled for choices here as every dessert in this place is droolworthy. Outdoor dining in September was perfect and service was good (even though not all staff speak English). Highly recommend the apple pie with almonds on top. I just wish the toilets were free (esp for the prices you pay, it feels unfair). They did let me change my baby's diaper without paying, which was kind.

Extremely moody toilet lady refused to talk with me about the 0,50 cents she herself required for a toilet visit when she got off some phone call. After trying my very best to talk in German, switching to English and nonverbal communication wasn't good enough for her either. I was just trying to ask whether I had to pay for the toilet if we paid for coffee upstairs. But there was no way she would talk to me and basically shood me away. The coffee was ok and at least the ladies upstairs in the cafe were helpful. But I got away from the cafe as soon as possible to avoid escalations from the toilet lady who obviously doesn't care about her own job and takes it out on goodwilling customers. I'll sit somewhere else next...

Coffee is alright, cakes pretty plain with not much taste at least the one I've tried. The biggest con of this place is the service. You might be lucky and be served by a polite and good waiter or very unlucky and be served by a rude and lazy waiter. As I've been in this place two times and we experienced both, our second visit has been spoiled by a bad, rude and lazy waiter. I don't mind leaving a tip for a good service but not for the bad one. Our second waiter did push us to leave a tip and we refused it as we had to wait for her over 20 minutes to bring us a bill - after 15 minutes of waiting we did remind her about us then she started saying something in German to us that didn't sound polite judging her facial...

We had 2 soups and 2 drinks, the gulaschsoup and chicken noodle soup had literally 1 piece of small meat and the bun that was given with it was very dry inside and tasteless. The only thing worth it was the bitter lemon at a jigh price. The waiter also only came to ask for our order and then didnt show up anymore, had to ask another waiter to get the receipt and pay. The elderly lady in the restroom was the kindest, but considering the restrooms are for customers only and then to ask for a donation to keep it clean makes no sense, pay the...
