The Small Steakhouse — Restaurant in Cologne

When we entered the restaurant the waiting staff were just chatting sitting down at tables right as you entered. No one said anything to us and we were eventually told to just pick a table.

I ordered chimichurri with my flank steak and it was horrific. I'm annoyed I didn't take a picture. It was a brown mess and tasted extremely old. I complained and they said they use many herbs and it is always brown. Chimichurri is a lovely dressing with a vibrant green colour normally and should taste like it looks, vibrant and full of herbs. This one sadly tasted like it looked.

They did remove it from the bill which was nice of them.

During our time eating there was a waiter standing in a chair in the middle of the restaurant adjusting how low the lights were hanging. This simply isn't acceptable, do it before opening.

Steak was cooked fine and our waitress was good.

If you are going on a date, the interior is extremely tired and worn and the food doesn't make up for it so keep that in mind.

Avoid this place. There are many other steak...

Terrible service. When I asked for a table, a female sever said anywhere I wanted so I pointed out the table on the corner then she said “No! Your table is here” .... Ahhh... okay. Then. This might be a language barrier. Move on.... After their tasteful juicy and bloody rare steak thought I ordered medium well, another female server asked me if I was interested in a cup of coffee but they did not have de-cafe so I just asked for my bill. 10 minutes later, my bill was not at my table. I asked her again and waited another 15 minutes. She saw me multiple times and walked around doing nothing. But she never came close to my table so I ended up to walk to the bar counter and asked my bill. Then she rushed to the counter and said “oh! I forgot it” then took out my bill from her pocket. I saw the bill in her pocket walking around for 15 min after I asked it to her second time. She never was sorry for this. She didn’t even thanked me either. The waitress was very friendly and suggested a great wine for our table, that was about the best thing about this restaurant. I would definitely not return here for the following reasons: 1) The beef tartare was not really a tartare, it was fully ground, and not in small cubes as it should be...this made it texturally unpleasant. As for the taste, it was not very good either. A waiter that came and picked it up uneaten, seemed very okay with the fact that we didn't finish it, didn't even ask what the problem was. 2) Some of the steaks were a little bit overdone, especially the medium rare order, which was served more of a medium. 3) The sides were meh... 4. Finally, we ordered the brownie from their dessert menu, but what we received was more of a cake than a brownie, rookie mistake for something that is very simple. 5) Last but not least, the bathroom was really gross. The used paper towels were piled up into a mountain under the sink, and clearly no one had stepped into the bathroom to clean...
