Traditionsgaststätte „Bei d’r Tant“ — Restaurant in Cologne

We sat down for a nice meal and a beer after work on our business trip. The reviews were quite high, but it turned out to be the opposite of what we expected. The person taking the order outside was incredibly rude. He said no to all question like ; can we cook the meat longer, is there a chance to remove some things from the food, without even looking at us directly.. Not everyone can eat everything, some of us have allergies. This perspective in such a touristic area in the center of Cologne in 2025 is disgraceful. When we wanted to look at the menu a little more, he said they took the order once and that we had to order in bulk and that they wouldn't take second orders. It was very obvious that we were tourists and therefore we were practically excluded. This racist and annoying approach of a place located in such a central and common area was disgraceful. If you are vegan, vegetarian, allergic or someone with special requests who cannot eat everything as standard, and if you don't want to be humiliated by the waiter, definitely...

Popped in here for a quick beer while we waited for our rooms at the nearby Motel One to be ready. Really glad we came into this really warm and charming neighbourhood brauhaus. Though we only popped in for a beer we decided to have some beer food too (and more than just one Gaffel kolsch each). We shared a liverwurst and dutch cheese plate, served with crispy wholemeal rolls and also shared a very tasty himmel und erde (black pudding, fried onions, creamy mashed potatoes and apple sauce). We were so excited to visit this pub! We read a lot of great reviews, and was looking forward to the food and beer, but had an awful experience. The staff was extremely rude to the point where we walked out. We showed proof of vaccination with passports (which was accepted everywhere else) he grabbed my vaccination card, shook his head with a grin, and threw it at back at me without saying anything. I asked what was wrong when he proceeded to say “I don’t know what this is, where’s your QR code”. We didn’t know we needed one, since we’re visiting and was never told to get one.
