If you find yourself in Dortmund and want to try typical Westphalian food, you won't go wrong stopping by here.

The restaurant has an old-timey feel, with a dark wooden interior, old hand-painted tiles on the wall, and soft candlelight to create the perfect atmosphere. We started by getting a couple of local beers, both of which were promptly served, tasting fresh and cold. After having a look at the menu, we decided to get the Rosenkreuz (sausage shaped a bit like a fiddlehead fern) and the himmel und erde (black pudding with an apple/potato puree). Despite being very busy, our food came out very quickly, but didn't taste or look like it had been sitting under a heatlamp or anything like that.

Both meals looked fantastic, and the tastes/textures of everything made it clear that the ingredients being used were high-quality and fresh.

I can't say I'd recommend the place to vegetarians, someone who avoids pork, or someone looking for a light meal, but if you're looking for hearty traditional northern German food in Dortmund, you can't go wrong with this place.
