If you find yourself in Dortmund and want to try typical Westphalian food, you won't go wrong stopping by here.
The restaurant has an old-timey feel, with a dark wooden interior, old hand-painted tiles on the wall, and soft candlelight to create the perfect atmosphere. We started by getting a couple of local beers, both of which were promptly served, tasting fresh and cold. After having a look at the menu, we decided to get the Rosenkreuz (sausage shaped a bit like a fiddlehead fern) and the himmel und erde (black pudding with an apple/potato puree). Despite being very busy, our food came out very quickly, but didn't taste or look like it had been sitting under a heatlamp or anything like that.
Both meals looked fantastic, and the tastes/textures of everything made it clear that the ingredients being used were high-quality and fresh.
I can't say I'd recommend the place to vegetarians, someone who avoids pork, or someone looking for a light meal, but if you're looking for hearty traditional northern German food in Dortmund, you can't go wrong...
Read moreUNACCEPTABLE!!! 19/09/2024 at around 23:00 we were verbally harassed by a guy working there just because we weren't German and obviously couldn't speak the language. We visited Dortmund for Intertabak and we are obviously not locals. When we chose a table we were told by the same guy that we need to leave because in 20-30 mins they are closing. After confirming with him that we don't mind and we just want a quick beer we were "allowed" to sit in. At 23:05 and while we were placing our order the moment we asked for a big bottle of water we were told the following " What's going wrong with you, I just told you that we're closing so you won't have time to drink it". At the end, we said to the very rude waiter that "for your information you're rude" and all he did was make a sarcastic comment in German and leave. Negative and insulting experience and won't visit this hostile place again! Try to avoid this place if you...
Read moreWe visited Dortmund for the Euro Cup for the first time and were intrigued by the pub's exterior, which seemed interesting and edgy. However, the experience turned out to be quite disappointing. The food was overall below average bar food, nothing special, but the most unpleasant aspect was the service. From the beginning, despite there being many empty tables, we encountered difficulty in getting a table inside. The waiter (a guy) was unwelcoming and clearly uninterested in being accommodating. His lack of enthusiasm in presenting the menu, promoting the venue, or suggesting food and drinks was evident. The table next to us had a similar experience. As a result, we didn't recommend this pub to others during our stay in Dortmund, as its service did not reflect the many great dining experiences we had elsewhere in the...
