Nie wieder/never again: long brewing traditions, delicious beer, and food multiplied by the most unprofessional and rude service I've experienced. Objective disadvantages: 1) only cash and no note/no explanation about it, i.e. you get informed at the end of your visit, 2) no client-orientated approach - you feel like a number in the line. And now some words about my subjective experience: A waiter acted as if I owed him, due to the fact that I decided to visit this place. I was there for the first time and, the local specifics such as the inability to pay by card, local beer varieties, evening menu, etc.were unknown to me. Instead of help or short clarifications, I was rudely greeted with the phrase - "you need to register due to Covid 19, using the bar code otherwise leave the house". Then the waiter ran away on his own business, leaving me without any explanations for the procedure and even a menu. After 5 minutes of expectation, I kindly ask him (while he was running to the guests sitting in front of me) for a menu. Instead of the menu, I received a rude phrase "what will you drink - was trinkst du?". I automatically asked for the most famous type of beer in Düsseldorf - "Alt". The menu (only for the served food options) appeared with the first glass of beer after a couple of minutes. By the way, I chose my dish enjoying the beer. The food was brought quickly and it was really delicious. At the same time, no explanation about the types of beer served, no drinks menu was provided to me at all! After deciding to pay for my dinner, I called my extremely busy waiter again. And then the surprises began. It turned out that it is possible to pay in cash only and that "everyone knows about it and it has always been like that". Further, instead of trying to find solutions, threats and demands came from the waiter. He almost forcibly tried to take my ID from my wallet. Leaving my waiter another document (not ID, but also my identity document - actually, it was not easy to do, since he refused to accept it -) I had to find an ATM of my bank and return to the famous beer house. It is pitty, but I have not received any even formal apologies, not even a hint of them from my waiter. In this regard, I had to complain to his colleagues and the manager of the beer house. I hope that the promise will be kept and some actions will be undertaken. My subjective advice to the management of this place (you can follow it or not, it's your own business) - the client does not have to know the rules and features of your beer house in advance. If only local customers (regulars) are important to you, then this is your marketing strategy, which I am not going to interfere with either. Perhaps not all of your waiters are so rude and unprofessional as I came across. But the name of your beer house, in my opinion, fundamentally does not correspond to the level of service that was provided on 10/04/2020. To be honest, I was shocked by this behavior, since I have not met such an attitude in any country in the world, and especially in Germany. By the way, I visited directly another famous place for a couple of "Alt" and my experience there...
Read moreThe Altstadt heart of Dusseldorf has a crowded nightlife, with streets filled with many happy visitors taking advantage of the many bars and restaurants. Uerige Hausbrauerei is a block away from the densest area, but its central location and house-brewed beer is advantageous. It occupies in a four-story brick building on a cobblestone street. Outside are many high top standing-only tables, and there is an awning that extends overhead when the weather is inclement. Across the street is an outdoor satellite bar that serves beer from one of their kegs. On this side there are sit-down picnic tables under large white umbrellas. When you enter the building, their copper topped service bar is in front. There is a constant clank of glassware as they fill the traditional small 200mL glasses with their Altbier poured from wooden kegs. This is the only beer they brew here, but they also offer a house-brand Helles Lager that is brewed at Schlossbrauerei. I found both of these beers to be just average, but enjoyable nonetheless. Ascend a few curving stairs on the right to their dining room. When you sit down, the waiter will assume you want a pour of their Altbier. For food, they serve a relatively simple menu of German cuisine starters, sausages, bread, cheese and a few dishes. The real draw of the place is not only their decent house beer, but also the cozy cheerful atmosphere. There are plenty of wood dining tables on a dark concrete floor. The high ceiling has octagonal wood panels, and the place echoes with cackling conversations. There is a motif of circular designs. The walls are decorated with historic photos and beer themed art, and there are decorative large wooden endcaps of vats on the back wall. In the center of the building behind narrow wood framed windows is their large brewhouse. They have two curvy copper brewing vessels, which are beautifully showcased. Downstairs are several additional rooms with circular high top tables, as well as an additional copper service bar. It is a huge place, and it was quite crowded when I visited on a Friday night. It is fun,...
Read moreAVOID!! This was the WORST experience we have ever had in Düsseldorf. The waiter was the most rude person we have ever met - we got lectured 3 times: Asking if they were serving food when we sat down (he claimed he was holding a tray of beer and the only question he could answer was yes/no on the beer in his tray and could not answer yes/no questions about anything else) Asking for an additional set of silverware (he said because we were American we had to use the brain in our head and tell them when we first sat down that we wanted to share our food amongst the table - reference point 1 where we were lectured for asking any question that was not related to yes/no for beer) At the end of our meal we got a recap of all of our lectures saying Düsseldorf has rude waiters and we should get used to it.
This waiter completely ruined our first half of our visit. Completely insulting us for simple questions. There is absolutely no way we would recommend this location to anyone. And it wasn’t just us, he made another table close by get up and leave, and was fighting with another woman about what she ordered. The waiter here simply wanted everyone to have an unpleasant experience and leave. We regret the 30 minutes we spent there.
Please do yourself a favor and go to Brewery im Füchschen or Brewery Zum Schlüssel instead. Beer and food are much better with the...
