We got recommended this place by a few locals, and it was great! The servers seem fierce but they were so friendly throughout the service, it really felt like the authentic German experience. Food we ordered: • Uerige-haxe (pork knuckle) - we collectively agreed its our favourite dish, tender and flavourful • Krüstchen gulasch (beef stew) - I like this a lot, its comforting and has a rich flavour • Schnitzel "wiener art" (pork cutlet) - this was okay, a bit dry and flavourless • Currywurst - can't go wrong, tastes like every other currywurst I've had haha We all got alt bier. Beer always tastes good with meat. Our first time trying it and got a bit of culture shock when the waiter served the second glass before we finished our first. A bit of Googling told us that Germans drink beer quickly because they love them cold, and we could just cover our glasses with the coasters so the servers know when to stop.

Nie wieder/never again: long brewing traditions, delicious beer, and food multiplied by the most unprofessional and rude service I've experienced. Objective disadvantages: 1) only cash and no note/no explanation about it, i.e. you get informed at the end of your visit, 2) no client-orientated approach - you feel like a number in the line. And now some words about my subjective experience: A waiter acted as if I owed him, due to the fact that I decided to visit this place. I was there for the first time and, the local specifics such as the inability to pay by card, local beer varieties, evening menu, etc.were unknown to me. Instead of help or short clarifications, I was rudely greeted with the phrase - "you need to register due to Covid 19, using the bar code otherwise leave the house". Then the waiter ran away on his own business, leaving me without any explanations for the procedure and even a menu. After 5 minutes of expectation, I kindly ask him (while he was running to the guests sitting in front of me) for a menu. Instead of the menu, I received a rude phrase "what will you drink - was trinkst du?". I automatically asked for the most famous type of beer in Düsseldorf - "Alt". The menu (only for the served food options) appeared with the first glass of beer after a couple of minutes. By the way, I chose my dish enjoying the beer. The food was brought quickly and it was really delicious. At the same time, no explanation about the types of beer served, no drinks menu was provided to me at all! After deciding to pay for my dinner, I called my extremely busy waiter again. And then the surprises began. It turned out that it is possible to pay in cash only and that "everyone knows about it and it has always been like that". Further, instead of trying to find solutions, threats and demands came from the waiter. He almost forcibly tried to take my ID from my wallet. Leaving my waiter another document (not ID, but also my identity document - actually, it was not easy to do, since he refused to accept it -) I had to find an ATM of my bank and return to the famous beer house. It is pitty, but I have not received any even formal apologies, not even a hint of them from my waiter. In this regard, I had to complain to his colleagues and the manager of the beer house. I hope that the promise will be kept and some actions will be undertaken. My subjective advice to the management of this place (you can follow it or not, it's your own business) - the client does not have to know the rules and features of your beer house in advance. If only local customers (regulars) are important to you, then this is your marketing strategy, which I am not going to interfere with either. Perhaps not all of your waiters are so rude and unprofessional as I came across. But the name of your beer house, in my opinion, fundamentally does not correspond to the level of service that was provided on 10/04/2020. To be honest, I was shocked by this behavior, since I have not met such an attitude in any country in the world, and especially in Germany. By the way, I visited directly another famous place for a couple of "Alt" and my experience there was positive.

As local and authentic as it gets! After winding through the various rooms of this old brewery and nearly getting run over by a wooden beer barrel being rolled across the floor by a typical Düsseldorf waiter (abrasive at first, but kind at heart with a sharp sense of humor), we finally found a table with our friends who had been showing us around. We had pork knuckle on our minds, and this place delivered more than I could have possibly imagined. To date, this place’s pork knuckle is the best I’ve ever had! Perfectly crispy skin with tender, juicy, flavorful meat on the inside. I’m not usually a fan of Düsseldorf’s rather dark and bitter altbier, which is a bit of a black sheep, often overshadowed by the golden, easy-drinking kölsch of nearby Cologne, but the combination was really wonderful (the beer in the photo isn’t the altbier, which actually came later). I will definitely be back!

Uerige Obergärige Hausbrauerei, is the place to be when you are in Dusseldorf. If you are a one-time visitor in Dusseldorf, do visit the brewery once, if you are there for longer, visit them again and again. The beer is tasty, even flavorful; the place would be easily declared as a cultural heritage site. All of their staff is burly; it is a sight to see them collaborate to pick the heavy barrels and place it atop the table. They also may appear to be arrogant but it is what it is, and soon you get used to them and their ways. Another exciting part is that you do not need to order a beer, you need to occupy a seat, and the beer is served to you. And the beer keeps coming unless you place the coaster on the beer glass. You must also go across the street to a bar and shoots yourself a few Killepitschs. And once you are done, grab a beer and sit down at the Rhine river and enjoy the sunset.

4.5 really. Some of the other reviews have been really helpful here because there are no instructions when you enter. - seat yourself at a table. Sometimes communal tables. - eventually someone comes by and asks if you want 250ml beer from a tray. Tab is kept by marks on one person's coaster. You can also order a different bottle if you know what you want. - empty glasses will periodically and automatically be refilled unless you tell them otherwise - you can order food if you let them know. They didn't ask when we went. - cash only. Waiter came over to settle when we were done by putting coaster on glass (another review mentioned this, and the waiter seemed to recognize this). Expect a really laid back, hands off, roughish and casual ambience. Indoor decor was tasteful and reflected local culture.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uerige, an authentic German restaurant, and the experience was fantastic! As an American trying haxe (pork knuckle) for the first time, I was blown away by how delicious it was. The crispy, flavorful skin combined with the tender, juicy meat made for an unforgettable meal. The portion was generous and paired perfectly with traditional sides like sauerkraut and mustard. The atmosphere at Uerige felt genuinely German, with its cozy setting and friendly service. Whether you’re familiar with German cuisine or trying it for the first time, Uerige is a must-visit spot for a truly authentic experience. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to indulge in classic German flavors.
