Bob & Mary — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

Interesting place. It doesn't quite know if it's trying to be fancy or not. No normal soft drinks, only that poncy Fritz cola, yet cheap paper napkins and no glasses. Strange.

I'm not a fan of burgers, so probably not the best reviewer of such. Never got the appeal of mashed up meat. I had the truffle burger to compare it to Grindhouse (which is to die for and the only place I will happily go for burgers) and was disappointed. It was severely under-seasoned and the meat was tough. The accompanying onion rings however, were truly sublime and made up for any displeasure I had with the burger! Perfect crispy golden batter with beautifully cooked onions inside. Have never had better. The Joppie sauce was a great accompaniment. The fries were great and the homemade ketchup is truly wonderful - rich and sophisticated. They could totally sell it, I would definitely buy some. The business lunch is great value too!

The highlight though, was the service. Everyone we encountered was just lovely. Truly friendly and quick with a joke or smile and all switched to perfect English when they heard my appalling German. Professional and attentive without being intrusive. Such a refreshing customer service experience. Really left feeling well looked after.

Will definitely be back, I know my family of burger lovers will...

FOOD & DRINKS I just came here to try out the burgers. The options for burgers are limited (which I do not mind) but they also have a special burger to pick from. The special burger was very interesting and it had a sunny side up egg which I love on a burger but I wanted to go for a classic on my first try. A slight change on the burger resulted in a follow up with the chef but turned out to be unproblematic. The burger itself was good. I wasn't blown away or anything but the patty was cooked medium as ordered and all around fresh ingridients. To me the burger could have been seasoned a bit more. You can add some salt and pepper but its not the same. The avocado crema also was a tad too sour and threw off the balance of the burger. The perfectly crisp bacon was really good. Most burger joints don't get bacon right.

SERVICE Simply amazing. Everyone was very very friendly and really nice but at the same time felt completely professional. The staff is outstanding.

ATMOSPHERE Lovely modern restaurant. Inside it can be very dark but in a warm way. Very nice place to grab a bite and hang out or go on a burger date.

RATING The service and the quality made it easy to give full stars even though the burger wasn't the best I had but that leans more towards...

This is my go-to burger spot in our city and it always delivers! I just had to write down a review this time to thank our server, Lishay (I hope I got the spelling right!), because aside from the perfect food, she was hands down the best server in the house. She was kind, competent, and she sure knew how to make you feel comfortable. It's RARE to get such warm and good service in Germany, so I absolutely give her credit for her excellent service. Mind you, we arrived at 8:15 pm and left just before closing time at 9:20, but she was still all smiles and had the best energy.

As for the food, the burgers were still the best (I have tried almost all the popular spots in Düsseldorf), the sweet potatoes were tasty although they were a little burnt this time but it's not a problem, and I tried their new churros which were also great. They played good music so the ambiance was nice, but a little too noisy for dates because they can definitely improve on their acoustics. Would come back for the food and the service....
