The variety of Indian food in Erlangen has always amazed me and this time I tried this new place called Chai Roti, a little odd name but as they call it, they do have some great street food and options at the place. Here are my reviews for different sections: Ambiance: Very cozy and soothing to eye with a great touch of Indian'ness, Love the outside sitting (though I could not sit there as it was full) but the lighting and space was great, not too big but not too small as well Service: Very courteous staff, always greeting you with a smile Time of service: considering how busy they were when I went there, the service was rather quick, no complaints Presentation: The food presentation was simply AWESOME. you can get good food at many places but when eating in a restaurant what also matters is how the food is served, check out the pics on how the Dosa was given, loved it and so was the kulfi, in a slightly hot glass, great idea. FOOD: This is the MAIN bit of why we choose one restaurant over other and this place has nailed the taste. I ordered Chicken Chaat, which I was skeptical in ordering first (being a north indian who loves chillies and strong flavours) but the mix of rightly cooked chicken with chickpeas and onion and the sauces was delightful to the toungue. I was craving for a Dosa so went for Paneer Dosa and there I got a beautifully rolled crispy dosa stuffed with minced paneer and the sambhar was awesome. The chutney could have been better though. Last but not the least had Mango kulfi and that too was great, like home made. Overall LOVED it and will surely visit them next time when I am there in Erlangen. Value for money: Yes it is slightly pricey for few things but overall the taste, presentation and other wow factors take away the price bit.
If you happen to be in Erlangen for whatever reason, I would surely recommend trying out this place,...
Read moreMy recent visit on 23.12.2023 left me disappointed with Discrimination by a Waiter.
When inquiring about biscuits to enjoy masala chai, I was met not only with an indifferent response but also with a disturbing display of indiscrimination. He replied “ free me kuch nahi milega.” Which translates to You dont get anything for free.
I want to clarify that my inquiry about biscuits was not an attempt to seek complimentary items but rather to enhance my chai experience. I fully understand and appreciate that dining at a restaurant comes with a cost.
Experiencing indiscrimination in any setting is disheartening, and encountering it during a dining experience is particularly distressing. I firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their background, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
Although the majority of the staff members were quick to offer apologies on behalf of this incident, I was disappointed that the waiter directly involved did not extend an Apology.
Lastly i wanted to add that waiter who himself a Desi background is biased on his treatment towards his fellow Desi customers. Don’t forget your Roots.
It is crucial for management to address and rectify such...
Read moreI am a frequent customer of chai roti. I love this place and I recommend their food ambience and politeness in general. Seems like they completely changed their staff. I am extremely disappointed with how the staff treated me today. I arrived (myself alone) at the restaurant at 8pm asking for a table for 5 to reserve at 9pm. I told them I can wait and eat something and drink till 9. Two of the waiters both led me to a table of 5 seated me there saying it’s available. I settled in and started working after 5min they made me get up and asked me to wait until they give me a smaller table for 1 until 9pm. While I was waiting just after 5min a couple arrived who has no reservation, they told them to take the only available small table. The waitress then told me they don’t have any table for 1 to give me. This is ridiculous, when I asked why you gave the small table to the couple who came after me with no reservation both the waiters responded with a sorry. I am an Indian and the others are not. I truly felt the discrimination today this new waiter and waitress didn’t seem to be the right people that fit this restaurant. I never expected this would happen to me at Chai roti of all the...
