I have never encountered such appalling service at a restaurant. From the moment we were seated, we were completely ignored. No menu, no drink orders—just left to sit there while our server attended to other guests. After more than 30 minutes of waiting patiently, we had to ask for a menu, only to watch as he promptly served another table that arrived after us. When he finally bothered to bring the menu, he threw it onto our table. How charming.

This pattern continued throughout our meal—constant neglect, blatant prioritization of other customers, and sheer indifference to our presence. Getting his attention to place our order required multiple waves and eye contact, yet he moved with such reluctance that it felt as though we were inconveniencing him. The food itself was decent, but how can one possibly enjoy a meal when the service is so infuriating? Any hopes of experiencing genuine German hospitality were completely shattered.

The ordeal didn’t end there. Once we finished eating, we were forced into another agonizing waiting game just to get the check. Again, ignored. Again, multiple attempts to flag him down. Another thirty minutes of waiting while he took care of everyone but us. When I finally went inside to ask another staff member for assistance, I was met with the astonishingly indifferent response: “I don’t know where you sit.” A competent and professional employee would have simply asked, “Where is your table? Let me assist you.” But professionalism, it seems, is nonexistent at this establishment.

Eventually, our server appeared, processed the payment, threw the receipt at us, and walked away without so much as a word. No “thank you,” no “have a nice day.” Nothing. Just pure, unfiltered rudeness.

This restaurant is nothing but an overrated disgrace. If this is how they treat paying customers, they do not deserve to stay in business. Avoid this place...

Mixed Food Experience, but Major Service Concerns!

I recently visited Apfelwein Wagner and wanted to share my experience to caution future guests. The mashed potatoes and blood sausage were decent, but my experience was overshadowed by the service. The staff was rude and harassed customers.

From the moment I walked in, the waitress’s unfriendly demeanor was evident. When I approached to greet her, she immediately turned away, then greeted me with, “Toilet? Downstairs” shaking her finger and pointing downstairs.—which I found impolite, dismissive, and unprofessional.

The worst part came at checkout. The waitress sternly insisted I write in a tip, making the entire interaction uncomfortable. When I asked if tipping was mandatory, she avoided a direct answer but kept pressuring me to add a tip. I felt very harassed because I put a tip of 0 on the bill and told her I didn't tip, but she still ordered me to tip and held the payment machine to stop me from paying! I said if you insist on ordering me to tip, I will make a record, are you sure you want to force me to tip? The waitress said nothing walked away silently with a poker face and left the payment machine behind.

I have since seen other reviews reporting similar behavior, where waitstaff repeatedly insists on tips from customers even though there are some cases of compulsive behaviors! I reported my experience to the management, requesting an investigation, and have submitted a record of this incident to the relevant authorities.

Apfelwein Wagner might have authentic food, but they should ensure a respectful environment for customers. I require the management can fix the waitress quality issue, as it tarnishes an otherwise well-regarded Frankfurt...

I used to live and Frankfort and since ever then have come back to enjoy traditional German food “Frankfurt-style”. However eating there yesterday was a ruined experience. It was a beautiful, sunny fall afternoon and I chose to come there not just for the food craving but also for sitting outdoors to enjoy the weather. Luckily I got one of the tables in the small courtyard. After the waiter took my order another one came out and due to a shift change, or any other random circumstance that wasn’t explained, started to close the roof. I asked him why and what was then said made no sense. I told him that with consensus of the other people sitting outside - two other groups - we all would prefer to keep the roof open as it would only make it dark and take away a lot from the experience. He then stated “OK”, regardless of that closed it and walked off without responding to any engagement after. After he had left I looked around in despair and finally took action and by myself reopened the roof again. A few moments later the “Wirt/Owner” came out and asked if I touched the switch. I said yes and explained that we all would prefer that it would stay open. He aggressively told me that this is not my business and that it needs to be closed. Very rude and unfriendly approach of him and the rest of the staff. Ruined my meal and in addition focussed my attention even more to the food which seemed to be also not as nice anymore as in the past. I will most certainly not come back there. There are many nice alternatives around the area and I am happy to take my business in the future elsewhere. Good luck with this service and customer oriented,...

This is a good spot to try a couple of authentic local Frankfurt dishes. The place is very spacious yet still gets crowded on a weekend. The staff is not very polite but in a charmful way which gives this place even more authenticity. The apple wine is the drink this place is built around - don’t expect beer there. If you get the wine in a glass then it comes premixed with the water, otherwise if you get it in a big jug then you mix it yourself. The apple wine tastes like unsweet authentic cider except it’s not sparkling. To my taste I would not mix it with water as much as they do if you order in a glass so I’d recommend ordering a jug and mixing to your taste. The starter we tried was the local HandkĂ€se cheese with onion. The cheese was a bit stinky - nice to try but now what I want to repeat. The schnitzel with the traditional Frankfurt green sauce was very good, the sauce made of 7 herbs made the difference. We also tried their Christmas duck leg which was totally overpriced in my opinion. Still the dish had a few sides like sweet red cabbage, dumplings, gravy and an apple with nice sweet dough covering with amaretto taste. The mespilus liquor was a blast - a bit expensive but worth it. All in all, a very nice place to go and enjoy the local food but if you have tried it already I might think twice about the dishes you select at least
