Das Wirtshaus Hauptbahnhof — Restaurant in Frankfurt

(28 Jul 2024) I have eaten here a few times over the last couple of years, I am not sure when it stopped being Sam's and became Das Wirtshaus, except that I never went in when it was Sam's and have really only known the place being what it is now.

I have generally only good things to say about this place, quite cheap, (Bowl of soup or Goulash, with break & a drink under 10€ in Central Frankfurt), quite a lot of space to sit, a godsend when it's been utterly freezing outside, generally a nice place to dine alone and watch the world pass by, I'm never troubled by any of the homeless, etc.

I'm not expecting anything too much from the soup, except that it (a Vegetable, a Potato or a meaty Goulash) is always thick and hearty and served with free bread. There's a large TV up on one wall, but the sound doesn't dominate, nor does the music when it is on.

The staff are nice and speak good English and German. Sure there are 100s more places to eat in Frankfurt and much classier dining, but generally this is one of the more comfortable places to eat in...

My friend and I went to this restaurant hoping to get some soup because we were both feeling unwell. The posted opening time was 8:00 AM, but when we arrived, the shop was still closed. Initially, we didn’t mind waiting. However, when I politely asked the staff member (possibly the owner) about the opening time, his response was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. He sarcastically asked, “Is the door open?” We said, “No,” and he replied, “Well, then the shop isn’t open,” in a very arrogant and condescending tone. His attitude was completely uncalled for. A more respectful response—or even simply allowing us to wait inside—would have made a world of difference. After this interaction, I no longer feel comfortable trusting this place. Wir hatten gestern per Lieferando bestellt. 95,- EUR für folgende Speisen:

Wirtshaus Salat Beilagensalat Handkäs Gulasch mit Spätzle Frankfurter Schnitzel Kaiserschmarrn

Für den vorgenannten Preis haben wir bei Lieferando noch nie bestellt und hatten entsprechend eine hohe Erwartung. Wer solche Preise aufruft muss dann auch qualitativ liefern.

Lieferung ging super schnell. Schon fast der schnellste Anbieter für diese Menge, bei dem wir bestellt haben. Großes Plus!

Salate waren gut und frisch. Dressing lecker!

Handkäs (2 Stück) eigentlich nur in Öl eingelegt. Essig und Würze fehlte quasi komplett. Käse fiel beim einschneiden auseinander. Brot war reichlich dabei, allerdings trocken (wirklich sehr trocken, schon fast hart). Erstes Gericht leider durchgefallen.

Gulasch schmeckte gut. Gute Konsistenz. Spätzle waren im Verhältnis zum leckeren Gulasch leider wirklich nicht gut. Ich gehe davon aus, dass es ein Fertigprodukt von METRO/Selgros war. Wenn frische Ware dann leider nicht gut.

Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und Güner Soße Ware grundsätzlich lecker. Tolle Panade mit Crunch. Bratkartoffeln frisch gemacht und Soße auch lecker. Schnitzel maximal dünn, dadurch an manchen Ecken sehr trocken gewesen. dennoch hat das Gericht überzeugt.

Der Kaiserschmarrn war lecker! Dass die Soße ein Fertigprodukt ist, hat dem Ganzen kein Abbruch getan, auch wenn der Preis von 12,00 EUR doch enorm ist. Persönlich hätten wir uns bei dem Preis noch über Preiselbeeren gefreut. Ein solch kleiner Wareneinsatz sollte nicht weh tun.

Im Großen und Ganzen waren wir für den Preis nicht überzeugt. Wir hätten mehr erwartet. Natürlich geht bei Außer Haus Bestellungen Qualität verloren, keine Frage. Aber es war schlussendlich dann doch auch der Geschmack, der nicht überzeugte.

Wir gehen oft und auch hochpreisiger Essen. Das Wirtshaus am Bahnhof reiht sich dann jedoch doch im unteren Ranking in dieser Preisklasse ein. Schade... Die Karte war wirklich vielversprechend.
