Very disappointed with this building. I had tickets in two different locations of the hall, on the 9th of February, for Rigoletto. The tickets were in the second price range (because I couldn't find something else) and both of the positions were terrible. The first one was on the left side of the room, where my view of the upper left side of the stage was obstructed by the ceiling. Apart from not being able to see the entire stage, the sound was also terrible!!!! I couldn't hear properly, which made me think that the performance of the orchestra/ artists was poor. I decided to change my seat for the second act (since I had 2 tickets). The location of the second ticket was in the balcony, on the second floor, on the left hand side of the stage. Although from that position I could hear better, this time I had a hard time seeing the lower left hand side of the stage, from a seated position . It was absolutely disgraceful. How could one design a concert hall in such a way that those who buy tickets in the second price category, are not able to see or hear properly?!?! I don't even want to mention the hideous design of the building, of stalinist inspiration. Very bad design, very bad sound, very bad seat arrangement and overall a very bad experience. Before seeing Rigoletto here, I have seen it in Bucharest a month before and the experience was much better... I was expecting more from Frankfurt... but apparently I set my expectations too high. I suggest to find another purpose for this building and put the old opera - Alter Oper (which is a magnificent building)...
Read moreAsmik Grigorian canceled her recital in Frankfurt on 3rd June. So I asked to refund my ticket but theater reused because they replaced her with other soprano and so it is not significant change of the concert. It is really ridiculous.
Title was Liederabend mit Asmik Grigorian. They changed main content. But they said it is still recital so there is no significant change. How can I understand them?
They might promote a recital with Jonas Kauffman or Anna Netrebko and then replace artists with other. And they might say it is still recital so there is no significant change. So we can’t refund.
Specifically Oper Frankfurt change conductors at last moment. Conductor is most important and significant artist in the performances. But they never mind to change them with assistant conductor. They change so often.
Don’t trust their...
Read moreBuilding mundane, more Milton Keynes than La Scala or NY Met. Tickets significantly cheaper however. Handy foyer cafe upstairs with indoor and covered outdoor seating. Toilets clean and adequate with minimal queues. Seating in the stalls is not staggered, and with a minimal raise between rows; someone taller than you in the row in front can block your view. Seats well padded and wide enough. Unintuitive door and seating system, but ushers helpful in several languages.
Simultaneous translation into English and German, but the display is quite high, possibly not ideal having to repeatedly peer up to read the text, then down to watch the performers.
We saw Norma. Choir, orchestra, singers all first rate. However apparently no money for sets; or costumes; or lighting; or someone who understands how to bring Opera to...
