Tom's — Restaurant in Freiburg im Breisgau

My wife and I were excited to finally try Tom's, as we had heard great things and had been wanting to visit for a while. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the start. Despite being seated and waiting patiently for 10–15 minutes, no one brought us menus. During that time, several tables around us received prompt attention—menus, drink orders, and all—while we were overlooked entirely.

For context—not to brag—we dine out frequently, spending around €1,000 a month at various restaurants. We know what good service looks like, but more importantly, we’re always respectful and patient with staff. That patience wore thin today as three different staff members walked past us multiple times. Some even made eye contact and greeted us, but not a single one followed through with any service or brought us menus. Eventually, we got up and left.

Before leaving, I approached a couple of the staff members to share our experience. One server, who had seen us seated and had been standing around moments earlier, made no effort to assist us until I confronted the situation directly. And even then—not a single apology.

It’s unfortunate, because we were genuinely looking forward to dining at Tom's. But based on this experience—and the fact that the neglect came from multiple employees—we won’t be returning.

Management needs to step up. Walk the floor, check in with guests, and don’t wait for reviews like this to start acting like you care. Basic hospitality goes a long way, and it's clear some of the staff could...

Tom's is a fantastic restaurant that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a delicious meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with friendly staff who are always happy to help. The quality of the food is exceptional.

I had the pleasure of trying their Crispy Chiken and salad, and I have to say that they were both outstanding. The Crispy was cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavor, while the salad was fresh and tasty. The presentation of the dishes was also impressive, with beautiful plating that made the food look as good as it tasted.

One thing that I particularly appreciated about Tom's was the attention to detail. The ingredients were of the highest quality, and everything was cooked to order, ensuring that each dish was as fresh and flavorful as possible. The portion sizes were also generous, making it great value for money.

Overall, I would highly recommend Tom's to anyone looking for a great meal in Freiburg. Whether you're a burger, Pasta, Curry&Reis, Fleisch lover or a salad enthusiast, you're sure to find something to love at this...

Gemischte Gefühle... einerseits eigentlich ein nett eingerichtetes Lokal ... aber ...

nun die Geschichte begann, als ich das Lokal betrat. Eine junge Servicekraft sah mich an, fragend, ich sagte ich bin alleine – und sie zeigte auf viele verschiedene freie Tische von denen ich mich an einem nieder gelassen habe. Dann bekam ich die Karte und bestellte eine Suppe, klein, und danach ein Curry. Was dann passierte war interessant. Zunächst habe ich gestaunt als sowohl die Suppe wie auch das Curry gleichzeitig kamen. Auf meine Anmerkung hin wieso nun kommt das gleichzeitig meinte der nette junge Mann - hatten Sie die Suppe als ersten Gang bestellt? Nun, nachdem ich ja alleine unterwegs war, es offensichtlich zwei Gerichte sind die man nicht gemeinsam bestellt oder ist, kann man eigentlich davon ausgehen, dass eine Servicekraft das auch so bestellt. Nun gut, so stand ich also vor der Wahl entweder die Suppe oder das Curry kalt zu essen. Ich habe mich dann dafür entschieden, mit dem Curry zu beginnen und war etwas enttäuscht, da sich in dem Curry zwar viel Hühnchen Fleisch befand, dieses Hühnchen Fleisch allerdings leider nicht durch gebraten war. Da ich – wie wahrscheinlich viele andere – bei Hühnchen doch Sehr vorsichtig und zurückhaltend bin, soweit es nicht durch gebraten ist, habe ich es an der Seite liegen lassen. Gut ich hatte ja noch die Suppe. Eine Suppe, die ich dann auch nur zu Hälfte gegessen habe, da mir nicht so ganz klar geworden ist, welche Geschmacksrichtung diese so bin nun wirklich hat. In der Zwischenzeit kam die nette junge Servicekraft und hat mir gesagt, dass es ihr leid getan hätte, dass die Gerichte gemeinsam gekommen sind. Ihr wäre nicht klar gewesen, dass eine Speise der erster Gang und die Zweite der zweite Gang sein soll. Dann kam noch ein Halbsatz viele Gäste würden das zusammen bestellen.....

Das ist glaube ich mit die schlechteste Ausrede die ich in einem Lokal seit langem gehört habe.

Am Ende nahm die nette junge Servicekraft alle meine Teller, halbvoll, fragte nicht warum und trug die Dinge von dannen. Als kleine Entschädigung bekam ich dann den Espresso, den ich bestellte, aufs Haus – der auf dem Unterteller liegende Keks war eigentlich ganz ansprechend – bis ich ihn mir genauer angesehen habe und feststellen musste, dass die Verpackung bereits aufgerissen war. Auch hier kann man sicher sagen, sowas kann passieren, aber offen gestanden sollte auf keinen Fall vorkommen. Ich frage mich hier, ob irgend jemand die Kekse hier einfach ungesehen wenn ein Gast Sie zurück gehen lässt wieder verwendet… Alles in allem also ja eine ernüchternde als eine anregende Location. Im Sommer sicherlich mit der Außen Gastronomie ganz großartig wenn man schnell was trinken...
