Hanoi Deli Rathaus — Restaurant in Hamburg

The restaurant is a bit hidden in a quiet street even though it is quite centrally located. The interior is ok, quite cliche (Vietnamese restaurant but has Japanese sakura trees), huge flashy bar area but the tables are too close together, even for a non-Covid setting. There is absolutely no privacy for guests here in busy time. Some tables are crooked.

They offer both warm dishes and cold dishes like sushi, but somehow we weren't offered a sushi menu to look at. Drinks are great, especially when you want to get hammered from Vietnamese coffee.

Out of 3 dishes we ordered, only one was very delicious (Bún Chả - rice vermicelli with grilled pork, served with Salat and sauce). The pork is well seasoned, not too sweet like many places in Hamburg. It is even a little bit crispy and smoky. Salat variation is great. For apetizer, the lemongrass chicken was nothing special. By dipping it in the overly-sweet chili sauce, it tastes worse than KFC.

I specifically asked the waiter if a dish was good or not (bún bò Huế) and he enthusiastically recommended it. Trusting this fellow Vietnamese, we ordered it and it was a shame. The broth is bland, tastes literally like warm water. Toppings are wrong. Noodles are too small for this dish. While everything else can be taken lightly, but that broth is unsalvageable. It is probably better to take this dish out of the menu if you can't do it even a little bit properly.

It took ages for the waiter to come and let us pay. I complained about the bún bò Huế, and the same waiter just smirked. Needless to say, we are not coming back to this restaurant, even when the family menus...

This restaurant is conveniently located right next to Hamburg town hall. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating, which is common in most German restaurants. The service was prompt, but the menu could benefit from a slight improvement. While the menu includes English names, it lacks explanations, which might be a missed opportunity to attract more international visitors.

The food itself was average. The fishballs were tasty, but the shrimp dumplings were disappointing. They were more like frozen food items than authentic dim sum. The chicken summer rolls were also not particularly impressive.

The “crispy duck” was a bit of a mystery. It was a stir-fried mixture of vegetables topped with a deep-fried duck. It was okay, but not great. It reminded me of a Chinese dish called “Happy Family,” which is a stir-fry of vegetables and meats created in America.

The pho was good, but it was not hot enough. Pho is all about the hot, steamy broth that instantly cooks thinly sliced beef. In this case, the beef looked like it had been stir-fried and then dumped into the broth. At least the flavor profile was good.

Ich bin auf das Restaurant Hanoi Deli Rathaus aufmerksam geworden, nachdem meine Schwester, die regelmäßig hierhin kommt, es mir empfohlen hat. Bei meinem Besuch habe ich eine breite Auswahl an Gerichten probiert, darunter das vegane Sushi-Set mit VEGI Special Crunchy (Avo - Gurke - Tofu - Spargel), Hanoi Budha (Spargel- Avo -Mango-Avo), Avo Maki, Gurke Maki und Avo Nigiri. Zusätzlich habe ich aus dem Hanoi Share Mix das VEGI Set bestellt, das Tofu in einem Grün-Reismantel, Vegi-Dimsum, Crispy Avocado, hausgemachte vegetarische Frühlingsrollen und Edamame enthielt.

Die Auswahl an Gerichten im Restaurant ist groß, aber ich fand, dass es zu wenige Menüoptionen für Vegetarier und Veganer gab. Außerdem hätte ich gerne einige Elemente im Sushi -Vegi Set gegen andere vegetarische Sushis ausgetauscht, was leider nicht möglich war. Die Menge an Essen im Hanoi Share Mix war meiner Meinung nach angemessen, aber der Preis für das Sushi-Set schien mir etwas zu hoch.

Die Qualität und der Geschmack des Sushis waren größtenteils hervorragend, abgesehen von den Sushi mit Spargel, bei denen der Spargel meiner Meinung nach zu dominierend war. Trotzdem waren die Sushis insgesamt gut zubereitet und lecker. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich der Tofu mit grünem Reismantel und die Dimsum im Hanoi Mix Set. Die Edamame waren jedoch etwas zu wenig gesalzen und geschmacklich zu mild, während die hausgemachten Frühlingsrollen frisch und lecker waren, aber meiner Meinung nach zu viele verschiedene Komponenten enthielten. Das ist jedoch reine Geschmackssache.

Die Präsentation der Gerichte war beeindruckend, und es wurde viel Liebe und Aufmerksamkeit in den Service gesteckt. Zu jedem Gericht wurde regelrecht eine Show geboten, was ich in keinem anderen Restaurant bisher erlebt habe. Einziger Kritikpunkt ist, dass trotz des hochwertigen Services, der Gerichte und der Location Einweg-Holzstäbchen verwendet wurden. Hier hätte ich wiederverwendbare Stäbchen für angemessener und umweltfreundlicher gehalten.

Die Location selbst empfand ich als extrem eng und laut. Die Tische standen zu nah beieinander, was die Gespräche erschwerte, da die Nachbartische zu hören waren. Der Service war jedoch sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und aufmerksam.

Insgesamt würde ich dem Restaurant Hanoi Deli Rathaus eher 3,5 Sterne geben. Das Essen war größtenteils lecker, die Preise waren in Ordnung, wenn auch etwas hoch, die Präsentation der Gerichte und der Service waren hervorragend, aber die Enge und der Lärm in der Location...
