1/5 Stars for Rathaus branch- Humiliating Treatment by Staff**

The food quality was decent, but I’m giving one star due to an absolutely unacceptable service experience that ruined our visit.

Initially, the staff member at the case who took our order was excellent - polite, helpful, and took time to explain the menu in English while offering dining options. However, when we inadvertently sat in what may have been the wrong section (which wasn’t clearly marked), another female server approached us in the most unprofessional manner imaginable.

Instead of politely directing us to the correct area, she began shouting and treating us like we didn’t belong there. Her aggressive behavior was so loud and hostile that other diners stopped eating to watch this uncomfortable scene unfold. We were essentially humiliated and forced to leave the dining area, taking our food outside where we had to eat in the rain.

While a male server appeared more understanding when my wife spoke to him, he remained passive and didn’t intervene to resolve the situation professionally.

A simple “Excuse me, this section is reserved, but you’re welcome to sit over there” would have solved everything. Instead, we were treated with complete disrespect. No customer should ever be shouted at or humiliated, especially over what appears to have been an honest mistake about seating arrangements.

Management needs to address this staff member’s behavior immediately and provide proper customer service training. The contrast between the helpful order-taker and the hostile server shows this isn’t a restaurant-wide issue, but rather one individual who shouldn’t be in a customer-facing...

Appalling Server Attitude

I was yelled at by the server. I ended up going to the Parliament, the restaurant across from Daniel Wischer, and they had much better food, ambiance, and service for only slightly higher prices.

DW has two sections - the cafe where they sell sandwiches and coffee & the diner where they sell dinners and drinks. Supposedly, you can’t eat the cafe food at the diner. I was seated at the diner. Since I wanted to try Krabbenbröchen, which was only available from the cafe, I asked one of the servers if I could buy it and bring it. I wasn’t going to eat it in the diner. Since I also ordered a meal and a beer at the diner, the manager there gave me the green light and said I could get and eat my Krabbenbröchen at my seat. 10 minutes later, another server walks by, sees the Krabbenbröchen, and yells at me for eating cafe food. Yes, she yelled at me, a customer. Another server comes up and vouches for the server who has yelled at me. I was appalled by the servers’ behaviour since it was the manager who told me I could eat my Krabbenbröchen. To sum up, there seems to be a lot of miscommunication between the supervisor and the servers, and I was a victim for that.

On a side note, DW is a bit crowded and food seems okay. I would recommend going to the Parliament...

If you -like me- get up too late after a great night out in Hamburg and you would like some breakfast or even brunch but all venues are crowded at quarter to 12/noon and you love fish n chips... this is the place to be 🤩🤤

The interior design gives a nice ambiente, the only criticism would be that tables are a tad bit too close for my liking to make leaving the table easy.

In Germany, restaurants usually only serve tartare or garlic sauce with our version of fish n chips but at this traditional fish restaurant they actually serve it with the classic malted vinegar. Fish was moist, chips crunchy and well but not too much salted. Instead of mushy peas, they serve a crunchy garden salad with the typical northern German slightly sweetened sour cream dressing. All in all very delicious. In fact it was so good I would have liked a piece of fish more and/or a few chips more, Therefore only 4 stars in the food section for leaving me wanting more 😉.

Service is immaculate, friendly and kindly convincing, that a good late breakfast could also be a typical Hamburg "Fischbrötchen with coffee on the go or a nice warm meal at the table." Thank you for a...

As we were in Hamburg, we knew we wanted fish for lunch so this place looked ideal. The food was pretty tasty (fish soup and the mustard fish). Unfortunately the service seemed cold and the set up of the restaurant is kinda odd - there is the restaurant area where you can sit in and dine, and there is the front area where sandwiches are presented in a fridge for takeaway. The restaurant side doesn’t offer any of the sandwiches on its menu, however, if you go to the front end to order there, you are reminded that you cannot eat the sandwich in the restaurant and its take away only. This is weird as for a fish restaurant and a city that’s famous for fischbrotchen, I would expect to see sandwiches on the main menu. It’s all one business so at least offer us the option to buy from the front end and eat in the restaurant with the other dishes we ordered. Finally, the waiter asked for a tip at the end of our experience. He never checked in with us once or did anything above the bare minimum so it wasn’t justified, and came across as rude.
