Food: 4/5 Vibe: 4/5 Service: 3/5
There's nothing quite like dining at the captain's table, or so heimat will seek to persuade you. After two nights in Hamburg, the alleged city of the herring, my companion and I had yet to stumble across the fish experience we had been promised, or perhaps assumed, by one of Germany's only coastal cities. And so our wanderings brought us to heimat, yet another Hamburgian establishment trading on the local harbour vibes, albeit with an elevated bent to the whole sea-shtick. In place of the usual suspects of frayed rope and crab baskets we have rows of authentic-looking barrels, plucked perhaps from a doomed wreck, hanging above the diners in some faintly morbid manner. The lighting bears mention too: long, finger-like tubes of sulphur-orange bulbs preen above the tables, suggesting squid tentacles as much as they do ship lights bobbing in the ocean black. All wood is dark; all metal iron and rusted; even the waiters wear the traditional sailor-stripe, the background extras of a Guerlain shoot.
And that's not even mentioning the bathroom.
The musky vibes continue with the food, too. Much like the deconstructed-boat approach of the space, all dishes that I sampled were alike in the pride of their ingredients: too significant to be diluted by another's presence, each element stood alone and brooding on the plate. I had the fish platter, which comprised three or four small fillets, their bodies bound only by a treaty of mustard sauce and some micro-greens. My companion took the Saibling, a cube of arctic char, a creature I confess I haven't encountered face-to-face, and whose image remains anonymous in my mind. But despite its reluctance to mingle, the food was good: all flesh was tender, the sauces light and complementary, and the beer served in those wonderfully satisfying stone steins one sometimes finds in Germany. The fluffy Deutsch bread pudding (also deconstructed) was a perfect end to the heimat experience.
As for the service: delightful, if... skittish. Our waiter would have been served well by a pull of the old grog. That being said, the clientele here seemed a mix of Hamburg's wealthier middle-class and assorted Web3 micro-celebrities, which is to say it's not hard to imagine the staff being treated as something less than barnacles. Still, it didn't diminish the evening - if you're looking for an old seaman's fantasy, we'd recommend you knock on heimat's porthole.
And seriously, check out...
Read moreGreat place to have a dinner with a beautiful walk through the port area of a mesmerizing Hamburg city. Space - beautiful ambient with a high level of attention to details. Minimalistic yet sophisticated, loved it. Service - waiters and waitresses, so are the stuff of restaurant and hotel in general, maintain a good sense of attention to a guest, at the same time, without creating an atmosphere of overwhelming care, very pleasant experience. Food - it was a dinner for 2, had the good fortune to be accompanied by a person of great importance to me. As main course we ordered: -Wheels cheeks in red wine sause with rhubarb for me and -rabbit wrapped in bacon with white sauce and asparagus for the lady Wheels cheeks were just amazing by themselves, and that even without mentioning the level of flavor complexity added by the sause and especially rhubarb. Rabbit, from our standpoint, was a little dry and not to our liking. We ended up tasting the rabbit and sharing the wheels cheeks. Drinks - as the wine list is comprehensive and does not lack in wines variety we decided to ask a waitress for recommendations towards pairing for our courses of choice, so a sommelier joined us. Interaction was pleasant and joyful, after which the choices were done and wine arrived. No need to say - choice was excellent and matched the food perfectly. Wines are represented by producers exclusively from DACH region, which is a nice touch and a great addition to the general concept of the restaurant. Great job and afford from the sommelier team. Price - from my perspective, price correlates perfectly with the service, food, ambient and amount of though put into the place. Conclusion - I highly recommend the “Das Heimat” restaurant for a nice, cozy evening, filled with great experiences from food, personal and the...
Read moreThursday night, I showed up without booking a table, the host make space for me to have dinner. Good environment, the volume of the music on point and lights on point... I had a dinner alone but I felt accompanied by the vibes of the place.
As soon as sat on the table took a glass of Riesling, to open my appetite.
Didn't try the appetizers, I went straight to the Hamburger Pannfisch, delicious, perfectly cooked, the mustard sauce well balance to be the gravy for the fish, it comes with a side of roasted potatoes that helps to clean the fish from the mouth and feel each bite like it's the first bite.
After my meal, one of the waitress (I'm very bad with names but she was very charming) came to recommend some desserts, I took the Cherry Cake, warm and sweet it's served with a scoop of vainilla ice cream to reduce the sweetness making it more creamy.
Well recommended I'll be back to try the other dishes that seems to be very tasty by the...
