Hindukusch — Restaurant in Hamburg

To be fair to the place - some dishes are good, but you have to know what they are like. My last meal wasn't and that wouldn't be a big problem, as it happens sometimes, not all restaurant meals are always good... However, what I really disliked is the atmosphere in this place, and especially the waiter. He was utterly inappropriate in his attitude towards the customers. Personally, I don't like when a man serving my food stares at me with evaluating look - I didn't come to a bar after all. Second, instead of working fast and serving the customers, he was super slow! I saw a couple had to leave without getting their food, two more couples came in and left immediately, seeing what was in this place. Besides, when a big group of Afghan men gathered, we were squeezed to the corner, so that it was impossible to sit there any longer. So, the place gives the priority to their own people. And finally, I ordered some kebab, which turned out not what kebab usually looks like - it was just a fried cutlet with fried egg and some salad on the side! So, I was highly disappointed. I wouldn't pay 8.5 Euro for such combo, if I knew in advance that what they serve under the...

Since first i came to the restaurant, the waitress , a middle age man, did not really welcome me at all. Then i had my own place and had to wait around 10 minutes just for the Menu. As an extra information, i came when the resto wasnt crowded and just 3 tables filled with guests there. Two stars i give for the food because as someone who likes to discover food, its should be enough. Nothing special even from the appearance of the dishes. Then when i asked for the bill even and he said yes. But suddenly he sat on the chair and had a chat with someone that i might guest, his family. Then i came directly to him cause i dont like to be ignored. As waitress he should be professional ,welcome...

Scheinbar haben die Wirtsleute alt, staubig und unrenoviert mit authentisch afghanisch verwechselt, anders kann man die Einrichtung und den Flair, wie z.B. auf die Sitzbänke genagelten Teppiche, o.ä. nicht beschreiben. Selbst in den letzten Dörfern vor dem HIndukusch findet man stilvoller und moderner eingerichtete Gasthäuser. Von Kabul möchte ich hier gar nicht reden, da ist das Restaurant Hindukusch Lichtjahre entfernt.

Schade, dass man sich hier ein falsches Bild vom wunderschönen Afghanistan machen wird - so ist das nicht. Wenn das Restaurant schon seit 1978 exisitert, dann dürfte die Einrichtung auch aus der Zeit und wahrscheinlich da auch noch von der damaligen Oma mitgebracht worden sein. Sowas nenne ich Gewinnmaximierung auf Kosten des Wohlbefindens der Gäste.

In schlichtem Geschirr, teils nicht gut gewaschen, erhält man zwar authentische und leckere afghanische Speisen (dies merkt man meist an der Zubereitungsart des Basmati-Reis und der Qualität des Fleisches), wir rätseln aber noch heute, wie man es schafft, auf relativ großen Tellern so wenig unterzubringen, ohne dass das auf den ersten Blick auffällt. So habe ich in meinem Häufchen Reis die 2 Stückchen Fleisch kaum gefunden. Nur wegen der geschmacklich guten Qualität des Essens habe ich 2 Sterne gegeben, ansonsten wäre es nur 1 Stern gewesen (die anderen afghanischen Restaurants in HH sind leider geschmacklich meist schlechter, bzw. nicht authentisch)

Beim Thema Gastfreundschaft (z.B. einen kostenlosen Tee), wie das so üblich ist, haben die Wirtsleute auch nichts mit Afghanistan gemein. Zumal Essen und Trinken nicht gerade als preiswert zu bezeichnen sind, da haben wir selbst bei Hallo-Pizza (mit afghanischem Inhaber) schon mal einen grünen Tee auf Kosten des Hauses bekommen und beim Chinesen ist der Lychee-Wein danach heute schon fast selbstverständlich.
