This tiny sushi place is a true gem. It's situated on Hamburger Berg a side street of Reeperbahn, which is usually associated with bars, drunk party folks and other shady business found in these parts of St. Pauli. But... don't make the location of Kampai paint a wrong picture. Because as soon as you enter the restaurant, you are in a different small world. The place is tiny, and only seats 10 people. Also, no tables, just high stools and high counters to eat at. The food is of excellent quality, the various types of fish are fresh and the sushi rice is on point. The menu isn't huge, but the things they offer will make any sushi enthusiast/japanophile eater more than happy. The chef is friendly, interested in his customers and always has a fun quote ready. And since he prepares the sushi in a corner of the tiny eating space, you get to see your order made freshly for you. The last time I went, he gave me two additional nigiri variations to try, which weren't on the menu (yet?). The friendly staff, the excellent sushi, the cosy room all makes for a neat eating experience. Prices are totally fair for the great quality on offer. Not cheap, but also not as over-expensive as some of the big name "premium sushi" places in Hamburg. Kampai is fully...

Kampai Sushi Bar is Quality.

When we were visiting Hamburg, we wanted to get sushi and Kampai was the TOP peoples’ choice. Everyone’s review about the sushi is great. This place serves the BEST sushi in the city or even country. I am a sushi fan and I’ve eaten it in so many places(countries), but nothing like this. Here is what you need to know about Kampai Sushi Bar:

Location may not be attractive, but trust me it’s worth the visit! There is a metro nearby.

Do email them before going. Make your reservation a day or so ahead, otherwise you may not get a seat, because there are only 6 seats inside which are available upon reservation only.

Prices are affordable and worth every penny

Friendliest Chef ever, ask him about “Okinawa Island songs” 😊

Friendliest staff ever. We talked to all of them

Make sure to order Nigiri Salmon Flambe. Omg..I still can’t get over the taste. We liked it so much we went for another round.

Kampai Sushi Bar is a very small place, but the atmosphere, the service, the taste of sushi is worth it. Trust me you will want to go back (because we do and we will definitely go there again). Best sushi experience...

Absolutely mind blowing 😍😍😍😍😍 Hiro and Hiroko offered an unique customer experience, from the moment we step into the restaurant they were extremely welcoming and the kindest possible, they showed genuine interest in us and we had an amazing conversation and dinner, The quality of the food was absolutely THE BEST⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this is so far my favourite sushi restaurant in Hamburg, the place is decorated in a simple way, it is cozy and beautiful in it's own way, the experience was like if we were transported to Japan, the sushi was really the best I've tried in Germany until now. I LOVE this place so much that I want to tell everyone to come, they certainly won a new client 🙋🏻‍♀️ Thank you for this amazing place and experience, we'll be back very soon...

One of the best sushi I had. The restaurant is really small with less seats, which is really cozy. The waitress is friendly and helpful and you can see the master/ chef does it's work. When we've been there he went to the customers and had a chat and came to us with free sushi to try. Really cool and super friendly people. The sushi tasted really good, specially the one with Japanese omelette (for me as vegetarian). The salmon looked really fresh and my wife said that it was perfect. If you're in the area I highly recommend you to visit. Just make sure to do a reservation of you want to make sure. Or you do it like we did and have a quick dinner between to reservations.
