As my office is practically above this place, I am here non-stop for coffee, breakfast and lunch. I’ve been coming to Mutterland for years and started out initially going to this one way back when….it was the first one. I then had one nearby when living in another part of Hamburg. This one remains the best by far and is even better since they renovated. I find their coffee to be the best in town and get one or two per week at least. I am a big fan of their loyalty card for this reason. I also have breakfast here often with colleagues or business partners. Same goes for having lunch here. Service can be a bit slow in the restaurant at times but they generally seemed understaffed on those days. Recently this has gotten much better. The folks kind of recognize me so they seem to also be better than if they don’t recognize you. Remember though that as it is so close to the Hauptbahnhof you have a ton of people who come in once and never again. I could see waitstaff behaving accordingly due to this (not right but understandable). I interact most with the people on the cafe side when getting coffee and they are always super nice. The menu is also great for both breakfast and lunch if you like German fare and fresh stuff. The menu does seem to change fairly often (not monthly but it has changed) so here and there new things show up.
They also have a shop upstairs after the renovation and it’s a great place for last minute gifts and Hamburg related stuff. I recently bought a book for my wife and she loved it. I’ve sent a bunch of people there who were looking for “something from Hamburg” or last minute gifts. I highly recommend just wandering upstairs and taking a look
There is also a co-working room upstairs if you want to rip out your laptop and get your work on. I don’t use that as my office is literally on the other side of the wall.
Maybe I’m biased but Mutterland has been good to me for years so I’ll keep...

My boyfriend and I arrived for breakfast at 10am on a Sunday. We were seated outside after which we were ignored by the young waitress when handing out menus. I had to ask for one after which we finally were allowed to see what we wanted to order. She took our orders, and we though that everything was fine. Until we waited. And waited. And waited for 30 minutes. People who came after us ordered, got food, finished and paid, but not us. After a while, an older waitress came over and strictly told us to move what must've been an inch because we were a safety hazard due to corona (!), even though there were plenty of space. We had not moved the table beforehand, but had sat down where the establishment had placed the tables. My boyfriend moved the table the aforementioned inch and she left without a word. Later, the same older waitress served our order to the table next who proceeded to eat it. When I tried to get her attention to mention that this was our order and that we had waited for 45 minutes at this point, she ignored me at first, walked away, but - since I still tried to get her attention by saying "excuse me, miss" - she turned around and SHUSHED ME! I've never ever been shushed by a waiter before, but there's a first for everything, I guess. We had now almost waited an hour, and then the same girl from before comes over... to take our order. I tried to explain that we had already ordered (to her) earlier and that we were still waiting, and then she just left. Nothing happened. After an hour, we were given a free cinnamon roll by a male waiter (he was the only one who seemed to smile or show any professionalism), but at this point it was too late and we left for the bakery next door where we had a breakfast within 2 minutes. And no one was neither shushing nor...

My friends and I chose this place as a breakfast place while visiting Hamburg. We queued patiently for at least 30 minutes. We never mind waiting as we understand that good breakfast places are normally full. During the wait, we could observe the waiters serving lovely looking food, and we were excited that we would be able to try it. Unfortunately, it didn't happen...
After the wait, it was our turn to ask the member of staff to be seated. And the rudness, impoliteness, incompetence, unprofessionalism started. We asked for a table, and heard that no tables were avaialble at the moment - FULL STOP. At this point, I would expect to hear 'Please wait 20/ 30 /60 minutes' - but the member of staff was unprofessional, and didn't suggest anything. I felt like a problem. Then, I asked if we could wait and get a table. And the lady answered by saying: "You can wait if you want, but I don't know how long.., 15 minutes.., 40 minutes.., I am not looking into people's plates to see how long it takes them to finish'', adding impolitely with bad attitude 'I am not a magician'. My jaw dropped. I have never been tried so badly in any cafe or restaurant. I decided to leave this place. She was rude, unfriendly. This lady should not work in hospitality. I was not seated, and wasted over 40 minutes for nothing. Don't know about the food or drinks in this place, but no matter how good the food can be, if you are treated badly - the place is not worth you being there, and most importantly your money. This experience leaves not only a bitter taste on this place, but the whole city as well. Appreciate people who want to visit you next...
