Our first visit to Mash in Hamburg was driven by the reputation of their exceptional meat cuts. The food truly lived up to the hype, offering an excellent dining experience with nothing to fault on the culinary front. However, it was the service that fell short of expectations.
Our initial encounter with service left us waiting for an extended period before someone finally took our order. Although the food arrived promptly, the server seemed disoriented, weaving through the restaurant trying to identify the correct table for our two cuts of meat. After savoring our delectable steaks, the true extent of the service's issues became evident.
When we requested the bill the first time, we were assured it would be delivered promptly, but 10 minutes passed with no sign of it. Politely, I inquired with another server, but it still took an additional 5 minutes for the bill to arrive. The frustration peaked when we waited an extra 15 minutes for someone to bring the card terminal, which never materialized. Frustrated and after repeated requests, I took it upon myself to confront the staff, explaining that if no one arrived within the next three minutes, we would leave without paying.
Suddenly, the staff sprang into action, but not without a peculiar twist. They informed my father, who had recently undergone leg surgery, that he needed to move inside as the terminal had no reception outside. This left us bewildered – why hadn't they conveyed this earlier? We could have saved 30 minutes of waiting, which was rather comical.
Adding to the frustration, the server directly inquired about the tip, a gesture that seemed particularly rude given the circumstances. In the end, our experience at Mash can be summarized as great food paired with a confused service that left us with little satisfaction. It was somewhat disappointing.
As a suggestion, perhaps the restaurant should consider assigning specific servers to individual tables to minimize the chaos. We encountered at least six different servers throughout the evening, contributing to the confusion.

Read moreTerrible experience. My wife and I were looking forward to a nice lunch. Had a reservation at 3pm, ordered one steak with fries and tuna tartar (which is an appetizer by the way) at 03:05pm. Until 03:55 pm no food. After asking no further information. We complained for waiting this long especially considering the restaurant was basically empty. There were three other groups who already ate when we arrived and were about to pay. So there was no reason for our food being this delayed. If there would have been any heads up or apologies when we complained and asked about the delay, we might have waited longer, but 50 min for one steak, fries and a tartar is not OK considering the prices and an empty restaurant. Moreover the desk light on the table had a nasty stain which we had to look at the whole time.
I understand that this is obviously not a fast food restaurant, but especially considering the level of the restaurant, the price, the emptiness of the time, there is no excuse for having to wait 50 min plus for a steak, fries and a tartar. Moreover I would have expected better communication from one of the six staff members.

Read moreFirst of all, the restaurant is placed at the harbour of Hamburg and is really easy to get to from the inner city. Other than that, 3 great rooms with a lot of space and it is important to mention that, everything is so clean and staff members are so sweet in the way that welcoming and servicing their guest at the highest level, I witnessed this.
I tried Uruguay Ribeye in medium/rare, whereas a friend of mine tried the Danish Ribeye in medium. The thing is that I never eat my steak in medium rare, but the kitchen chef told me to do so, even after I ordered the meet in medium, he decided to come all the way out to tell me that, the meet keep its taste in medium rare. They also preferred their wines in order to match with the meet, which is something I have not been witnessed to.
Other than that the food was amazing, the service at top high level and the atmosphere was so great, that I now this is not the last time.
