Cavallino Bianco — Restaurant in Heidelberg

The waiters were pleasant and spoke good English, I'm afraid it's downhill from there. The menu was boring and very limited. Aside from the staples of carbonara etc the only meat on the menu was a few variations of fried veal. Both the pizza and pasta ranges were limited and unimaginative.

This alone doesn't account for one star. At the start of the meal a wine glass was accidently spilled and broken, as sometimes happens. Different establishments will have different reactions. Here there was to be no replacement and we were told that we would be billed for the glass. At the end of the meal the boss herself presented the bill with plenty of withering looks. The glass was charged at 5 euros. I suggest they change supplier as I wouldn't have paid a euro myself.

We paid politely and left. We won't...

Lovely location. Anything positive stops there. We ordered a couple of drinks rolling our eyes at the exorbitant prices but overlooked it for the location. Then we decided to eat as well which was the biggest mistake we made. We ordered the special menu, wild garlic pasta and prawn risotto. Pasta was ok nothing special to write about. The risotto however was a disaster, in fact my partner who ate it has been in bed for two days with suspected food poisoning. Risotto was over cooked to a mush and prawns were over seasoned probably to mask the quality (lack thereof). This was the first bad meal we’ve had since arriving in Germany and were bitterly disappointed....

My family and I did a day trip to the castle as most do. After which we wanted pizza for the kids , however , as we past by here we saw they had pizza and it looked like a nice mom and pop place. It was around 2-3pm not a lot of ppl were there. We ordered two pizzas and pasta carbonara. It was great , all the flavors and taste! Also we had the kids with us , is isn’t a kid kinda place but the owner and waiter took care of us and made us feel welcome. The owner/ cook even made us a little desert on the house. I highly recommend this place just for food alone, but also we have to support these places...
