Hi All - We tried Red out for lunch during our most recent trip down to Baden-Baden. The restaurant was wonderful - as described in previous reviews - the food is buffet style with amazing choices and it was all very fresh and tasty. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and kind to "newbies" and made us feel at home. My Lebenspartner remarked that she didn't observe any "tofu" based dishes - which is kind of remarkable, and I also didn't stumble across any bean dishes (I was kind of hoping they might offer a bean burrito type dish that I miss from the states, but didn't find it). I really enjoyed their couscous stuffed peppers. And their location is just a few minutes off the freeway - well worth the diversion as the places on the freeway don't really offer anything edible in our point of view at this point - they seem to have gone on their own cost-reduction diet - but that doesn't mean you don't have a choice about what you eat. Read moreAmazing veggie/vegan buffet style restaurant where you help yourself and pay by weight. It's a great concept and the dishes are varied and based on a wide variety of vegetables including a few we don't see often in the UK (eg Kohl rabi) I would guess around 50 to 75% are vegan - it would be great if more of the pasta and warm dishes were vegan too. About half the dishes are also gluten free. Brilliant cakes too, again good vegan selection and a few options for vegan coeliacs. We spent 3 nights in Heidelberg and visited twice, would definitely go again. We needed Google translate to understand some of the labels but when one of the staff realised we were trying to understand allergens she went and got her colleague who spoke good English and was...
Read moreI never imagined that one could have such an amazing feast in vegetarian/vegan food in Germany! I arrived in Heidelberg from Schwäbisch land (Stuttgart), where there were only two choices for a vegetarian: Käsespätzle und Maultaschen. And if one is lactose-intolerant, then one can only subsist on Kartoffelsalat. This restaurant fed me like I'd never been fed before! There seemed to be endless creations in vegetarian delicacies, both cold and hot, savory and sweet, that covered several long shelves. I would have had at least 3 full plates, if not for the reason that my local friend was paying for lunch (they charge by weight), and I didn't want to empty...
