Café Pfiffig — Restaurant in Lübeck

Food was nice but service was horrible, one of the worst experiences in my two years living in Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein. Entire beverages menu is alcohol free, which was not clear upfront, and the prices were high even if they were normal, alcoholic drinks.

Waiter (short, German, red-haired with a small nose) appeared intoxicated and took forever to take our order, food took an hour to arrive and was served by a child who looked 6 years old. When it got dark, no candles or lighting was available, even after we had asked for it. In the end we had to use our “beers” as sources of illumination.

Waiter incorrectly split the bill and started yelling at us when we tried to correct him. He also badgered us for a tip, even after his horrible behavior.

Entire drink menu is alcohol-free which is fine but this should be more transparent and the prices should not be the same as drinks containing alcohol, that part is a total scam. Food was good and nice spot to sit by the river. Service is very poor, waiter was rude and unhelpful. Made a big issue out of printing our bill and then telling us because he printed the bill he was unable to take card payment. In the end card payment became possible however didn’t even say thank you or wish us a good day. No tip given. Waiters seem to have their own sections and therefore will not serve you even if your own waiter is busy taking ‘an important call’, instead you must wait and wait. Poor service (waited a long time just to order and then a even longer wait to recieve our food). When we got our food (45-60min in) we still didnt have any knife or forks to even eat with. Waiter just left the food at the table and left.

Menu was incorrect. Wanted the wienerschnitzel with potatos and champijon sauce. Apparently none of this actually existed and we got no sauce and fries instead.

Food was somewhat tasteless and everything got rather dry (probably due to the lack of sauce). Still quite expensive for the quality we got.

Location is great, next to the canal and a very lively street. I would however recommend to visit one of the other resturants where hopefully the service and food is better....
