Returned after good experience 6 yrs ago. Views of Stuttgart surroundings hills still great …. but food and service were a BIG disappointment. Arrived early to nearly empty restaurant and asked to be seated “somewhere near” windows / view. We were well-dressed (art museum attire; no sneakers or caps) ... but our request was denied (all other tables booked). We were seated max distance from windows, beside kitchen. Mid May so I chose white asparagus starter that l know and love in that season. Plate that arrived was SO disappointing - not fresh, not tender, no flavor - that (when pressed by hostess) I had to ask if it came out of a tin or jar, it was that bad. Main was “lamb 2 ways” at EU_50 each plate. We are Australian born - KNOW and LOVE lamb. One way was grilled “odd cut” (a small cube of tenderloin at best) which tasted OK but needed much better support than the single not-couscous mess that it was served on. 2nd way was more interesting lamb off cuts in a small cup of foamed middle eastern spices. But it was luke warm / cold and the small lamb cuts were dry and stringy (more like mutton than lamb). When we left the restaurant some 2 hrs later, the 8-top tables immed by windows were indeed fully taken. But more than half of the remaining 20-30 tables - ALL closer to the view / windows than our table - were still empty. We had spent EU_200 and came away feeling disrespected and shocked by the poor quality of food and service we received. Go for the views and a pre-dinner drink … but go somewhere else for fine dining ...
Read moreIn the country of the blind, One-eye is king. It started with the apero, glass champage, 16,5 euro, pricy but it is Bollinger...We drink champagne a lot, so I am a bit familiar :) I doubt it was Bollinger, no taste at all. I ask the waitor if it is really Bollinger, 'Yes off course sir'. And off he goes. I would have asked: 'why sir, is there a problem?'. But no, off he goes :) strange. It was no Bollinger. To be short on the menu: I am from Belgium, not the cheapest country to go out to diner. But the Cube... how much overpriced can a restaurant be? 122 euro per person for some burrata on a slice of tomato, not even peeled . After that, an ordinary thai soup (where was the chicken) nothing special. Main course was chicken (chicken must be cheap) filet (perfectly cooked I have to say) (photo in one of the other reviews), presented on a bed of potatoes in very sweet sauce. Very disappointing for that price, but edible. Ow I forgot, we ordered a bottle of wine. We got the first dish, nobody to pour the wine. I waited 5 minutes then I poured it myself, they see that and then quickly someone at the table. Too late...Let me remind you: 122 euro p.p. Oh, to end the dinner in the most disappointing way: they present me the bill: 'Sir we took the liberty to add 10% for the service. If you want we can take it off the bill.' Never, never ever have I encountered a restaurant that is so arrogant to do this. But again, in the land of schnitsels and kartoffeln, one-eye is king. Never, never ever...
Read moreGREAT FACTS The food was delicious, like really scrumptious, and beautifully decorated. The small portions are suitable to take starter main & dessert. The service was friendly even though sometimes a little bit slow; I guess it was a usual busy Friday night. Honorable mention goes the gorgeous plates!
SPACE TO IMPROVE The music was too loud, especially with a full restaurant of taking guests. We had trouble conversing. Layout of tables: our 2person table was next to a 6p table which left only a rather small gap to walk though - and it was the main path from the kitchen to the window front. My dining companion who sat on that side was bumped in several times by accident as was the person at the opposing table and the staff had to walk through the gap sideways. That was not a smart setup especially bc the next table was only 4p and therefore not as wide. Drink orders: Drinks took an uncomfortable long time to arrive when ordered with the food. I get that it was busy but it's not ideal to have to wait 15min for a glass of wine to go with your (by then lukewarm) fish. I was surprised that there were no cocktails. The non-alcoholic options are also little.
All in all, with the necessary pocket money I will come again, though maybe I'll...
