Klepsydra restaurant had an air of romantism about it. Neatly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Plaka tourist epicenter, yet a mere short 10 minute walk away from the main plaza. The restaurant, spotting seats and tables on stairs,is located just uphill from the Roman Agora. We ordered the pork gyro, grilled sea bass, spinach pie, and fish roe and eggplant appetizers. Food was average/good at best but not truly memorable. Portions were sufficient but my group of 4 was not too hungry due to the hot summer heat. If anything, perhaps the eggplant appetizer shone among the dishes, which came as paste and acted as a great spread for bread. That said, coming to Klepsydra comes as an experience to soak up sights and watch people in Athens go by. As the sun was setting bathing the area with a warm hue, the soothing voice of a singer down the hill enveloped the air with a soothing tune. It was a perfect setting to be seated at Klepsydra, unwinding from a day out visiting the Acropolis and watching scenes change from light to dark.

You can’t go wrong with Klepsidra Cafe!, it’s set on a corner, in the Plaka with a romantic Greek ambience, tables placed just right on the inclined steps. We were greeted right away by the ever so friendly George! His super fast and friendly staff serve amazing Greek dishes, and any drink you want. We didn’t wait for anything! I had an ouzo and a Mamos beer 🍺, fried feta, Greek salad, meatballs and tomato sauce with rice, my wife had the beef and risotto. Superb dishes, and the view with a local guitarist in the background was profound! I was able to say goodbye to George on the way out like we were old friends. Such a nice man. Thank you to all for your hard work and dedication at the Klepsidra Cafe! Well done!

I really was excited to try this place. And the food was really good - I had one of the best Greek salads I had during my 4 weeks in Greece. But the service to me left a bit to be desired. Maybe because I was a solo diner but I didn’t feel welcomed. I could understand them being annoyed by me taking up a table if it had been busy, but I’d say it was maybe at 30% capacity. So it was really surprising when nobody greeted me or helped me to a table. I sat myself down and had to call multiple times the guy to come and take my order. And when he did come, still not even a hello or any words at all actually - just whipped out his paper, wrote my order, and walked away. Then went and sat down and smoked a cigarette. Don’t think I’ll be back.

A wonderful traditional Greek restaurant, serving simple authentic dishes without any pretentious frills or prices. We literally stumbled upon this gem when walking down into Placa after viewing the Acropolis at sunset. Similar to nearby restaurants you can be seated on the steps, however, this restaurant is quiet in location, enjoys a calmer atmosphere and you don't feel at all hurried. Complimentary bread and water are brought to your table without the need to request this and jugs of local wine are served with glass tumblers. The lamb I had was amazing and portions are a good size. We returned to this establishment more than once during our stay and the staff were always friendly and the food excellent.

I stopped into Klepsydra for a late dinner the other evening and I was thoroughly impressed! The service was exceptional and my waiter was incredibly warm and helpful. I asked what one of their best menu items was and he suggested the lamb. I’m typically not a huge fan of lamb, but I decided to take the waiter’s advice and give it a shot. I was not disappointed. The lamb was absolutely delicious and the meat was so tender it quite literally fell off the bone. The sauce was excellent and truly added to the flavor. The wine was great too! And I got it all for a very reasonable price! I couldn’t be more happy with my experience! Would HIGHLY recommend!!

We stumbled upon this lovely family owned restaurant whilst trying to escape the hectic tourist area, and we are so grateful for this little gem. Everything from the food, to local wine and the friendly service was fantastic. And we enjoyed every moment of it whilst watching the locals walk by the peaceful little side street. We loved it so much we decided to spoil ourself, with two starts, two mains, two desserts and a bottle of local wine. All up it was 80€ and completely worth it! We also really enjoyed talking to our waiter, Nikos, who was really friendly and offered us great suggestions and also made us laugh a lot.
