Staying at A for Athens Hotel was one of the best decisions I ever made when it comes to vacations. I stayed in the blue suite and it was phenomenal. The room is spacious, very modern and kept in good shape. It consists of a sleeping area (with a very comfortable big bed and a walk-in closet), a living room area with a huge bathtub, a couch and a bar and a bathroom with the biggest shower I probably have ever seen. There are big windows and two doors to the balcony so the room has a very light atmosphere. The absolute winner is the view. The hotel is placed directly at Monastiraki Square, which seems to be the touristic capital of Athens - and is right in foot of Akropolis mountain. From the hotel's balcony you have a perfect view on the Parthenon which, day or night, is just humbling and really beautiful. There are a lot of bars and roof top bars around the hotel (one is placed on top of it), so the area is really really loud. If you're looking for a quiet and meditative stay, this is not the place for you. However, they did a good job soundproofing the blue suit. If you close the windows and turn on the AC for the night, the city noise is barely audible. Two things I would suggest to change so it would be an ever greater experience: first and foremost it's great that the room is so modern, however I had quite some issues understanding how to work the menu panel for the lights and shades. It would be really great if there would be a manual in the room. The other thing is the breakfast. That being said, I know that probably many tourists expect to have the same continental breakfast everywhere they go. A sweet boutique hotel like A for Athens could really profit from giving it a more original spin, focussing on Greek delicacies, fresh fruit and just cut the luke warm scrambled eggs and cornflakes. I only went up once for breakfast and was glad I found a nice bakery just around the corner in psirri that serves really really good bougatsa (you can have them cut it and take it back to the hotel). Last point: the concierges, especially the guys, were really helpful and nice. So if you are planning to go to Athens, choose this hotel. It might not look like much from the outside, but you will be happy to stay in such a great area (with the metro station a few steps a way, tons of restaurants, and a station for the hop-on busses directly in front of the hotel). Consider spending a bit more money and book one of the two suites....
Read moreThis is a cute boutique hotel located across the street from Monastiraki square. It's very convenient to the metro, buses, and taxis - and all of the sightseeing in the Monastiraki and Plaka areas of Athens.||||The staff were excellent - very friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and they all spoke wonderful English. ||||The hotel itself has rooms on a few floors, with a rooftop bar that's open to the public. The view is really excellent from the top, but if you want to have drinks during prime time, you need a reservation. At check-in, they provided a coupon for a couple free glasses of wine, which was a nice touch. The rooftop bar/terrace is really one of the selling points of this hotel, and I wish we could've been able to get a table for sunset drinks (from what we could tell, hotel guests did not have priority - but I could be wrong).||||Although the complimentary breakfast buffet is served on the roof, we didn't get to experience it as we had an early departure. The front desk did offer us a to-go box, but we chose to just grab something from a nearby coffee shop instead.||||We had a standard double room. We had no Acropolis view, so our windows faced the side street. It was fairly noisy at night, due to traffic and the music/drums from the street performers on Monastiraki square. The room was rather large for European standards, and very comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size, and I liked the Korres toiletries. The shower stall was pretty large, but the tile and grouting were a little dirty/stained.||||The elevator was probably the biggest challenge with this hotel. I don't think I've seen one so small in all my travels. It would fit either two persons, or one person with 1-2 bags. And it was a little complicated to operate. We ended up using the stairs quite often, as the elevator was often in use, or too slow. It's not a huge deal, just something to be aware of if you have mobility challenges. ||||Overall, this is a solid choice for a 3-star hotel in the heart of Athens / Monastiraki. It has a lot of really great features, but due to some of the slight negatives (the noise from Monastiraki square, the inability to get a table on the rooftop terrace, the tiny elevator, and the tile in the bathroom that needs more attention), I think I'd look elsewhere for a...
Read moreI’m a solo traveller and I stayed here on my first trip to Athens. I wanted to be central to the attractions. The location was amazing! It is right on Monastiaki square where you can take the metro to and from the airport making it easy to get to! You can also use theirs to get around Athens! Low cost and easy to use!You can see the Acropolis right from the square! There are also lots of lovely restaurants and coffee shops around this area too!On arriving at the hotel the reception staff were very warm and welcoming. They helped me to arrange transportations and offered to prepare a takeaway breakfast bag for my early check out which was very kind! The room itself was quite large and clean with all of the amenities that you may need. The shower was hot which was good! The downside to the room is that it is very noisy from the outside due to it being on the square. It can get busy at nighttime, however I did expect this due to its location. I came prepared and brought earplugs to sleep in which did the trick! The breakfast is served in the rooftop bar. Plenty of choice and delicious pastries each day. Hot and cold options available which was nice! The views from here are amazing! You can sell all around you and have a view of the Acropolis as you enjoy your breakfast! Wow!Photos attached of the view from breakfast at the hotel rooftop and the square!I would recommend this hotel to stay on if you are wanting to be in the centre of Athens! Everything was accessible and the staff was always happy to help! Thank you so much for being so lovely during my stay!I would come...
