MoMix Bar Athens — Restaurant in Athens

Ill start with the good things first. The server that took out order was absolutely wonderful. And in general, the staff were nice and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and the style of the bar was spectacular. Good music, design, lighting, bathrooms were clean.

But for the bad part: We ordered a "Total experience" which includes if I recall correctly; 4 Bubbles 4 tubes 2 drinks 2 macaronis And 2 different illusions. I was under the impression that I am about to enter a high end mixology bar. Ill start by saying, I managed a couple high end cocktail bars in my life, I know my fair share about molecular mixology.

We started by getting both of our drinks, the waiteress suggested getting a sweet and sour one, and a sweet one, we gladly agreed.

The drinks we received were absolutely horrendous. The sweet one was literally as if we were sipping straight up store bought Monin, and Im not even exaggerating, the level of sweetness was unbelievable, and I usually absolutely love sweet drinks.

The second drink was more bearable, but still, so terribly unbalanced that its hard to even call it a cocktail.

Around 15-20 minutes later we got our tubes and bubbles. I mean, a fine and classic concept... gel like membrane surrounding the liquid. Probably sodium alginate dripping, all good so far. Except the taste. I didnt like a single one of them. All bubbles and tubes completely unbalanced, barely even resembling the cocktails they are supposed to represent, and as usual - extremely sweet. I mean, experienced are fine and all, but if you cant get the taste right - its worthless. That was not a cocktail in any way, that was a fancy way to represent terrible syrups mixed with spirits.

Now here's where it gets worse; We finished the bubbles and tubes and waited another 30 minutes for the next round: Macaronis, which were somewhat fine, and some kind of a pan with greece brandy and a jelly block cocktail. The waitress burned the spirit, carmelizing the top of the jelly block. The moment I gave it a taste - I wanted to throw up. Absolutely horrendous, the texture was disgusting, it was pale in taste or any type of complexity. Just felt like eating tasteless jelly with a hell lot of sugar. And once again, just a simple agar / xanthan niche, nothing special for a "molecular mixology" bar

The place started to fill up, we waited an excruciating 45 minutes for the sorbet we were supposed to get. No waitress in sight, absolutely no service, and the thing that annoyed me the most? We received the "total experience" in 4 different rounds. If you include the cocktails and exclude the sorbet. Those 4 rounds of 2 minute sips took almost two hours for them to make.

Absolutely no logical pacing in the experience.

We couldnt get a hold of any waiter for 40 minutes. We came downstairs and payed up. Didnt even want to wait for the sorbet any longer. And the best part? 100 euros.

For supposedly the best experience MoMix can offer - the Total Experience.

This trip to Athens has been a bar tour for me and my friend. We've been to twelve different high end cocktail bars. This one was the absolute worst, I wouldnt even call this a cocktail bar - an absolute niche.

PS. I would like to clarify and note; Even if the experience was perfect, I doubt I will ever be flying to Athens again in the future, this review's purpose is for constructive...

Rude staff, the waiter was pushing for us to order more stuff than we wanted. We wanted to drink slowly so at first we ordered one of the bubble shots and two drinks and he was very weird about it… later we found out why. when the time came to ask for the check HE STOLE MONEY FROM US. He made up a random number up: 70 euro. Even though what we ordered was only 64… He even said before I paid: and tip?

My friends noticed I overpayed and asked for the check that HE NEVER GAVE US. When he came back with it it had random number in it like 5 drinks in there that were 15 euro each etc. (bubble shots are 4 euro) those were nowhere to be seen… then we explained to him how we overpayed and then he gave us back 6 euro and he ran back with the copy of the check so we wouldn’t have it. We were a group of girls celebrating my bachelorette those were our first drinks of the night but he probably thought we were stupid and drunk … if you start stealing from 6 euro and 6 euro at each table in the end you make a fortune. On top of that there were motorcycles parked in front of the bar the and one of the alarms of the motorcycles was going off the whole night so it gave us a headache from the horrible noise. This place is kind of outdoors in a corner with a lot of heavy traffic so if you sit far away from the music you only hear loud cars. We were very disappointed at how that waiter tried to steal money from us and didn’t even apologize. I even gave him a 10% tip but I should have taken it back too… when he gave me my money back he didn’t correct the bill he just took some cash from his pocket and gave it back that’s all…. I’m leaving this review to warn others so they don’t get robbed in plain sight from this man. We were there on 30.09.23 at 11:00p.m. Because we wanted to start drinking there to head to a club to dance later so we only stayed one hour until midnight… that was more than enough. Never coming back. Please teach your staff...

Stratis and Stefanos were great. We opted for the menu that had two cocktails, two bubbles, and two tubes for 40€ and a mocktail for my MIL - there was no such thing on the menu but they whipped up a great drink for her and our menu was DELICIOUS. We got our bubbles mixed up and I had my fiancé’s and he had mine so they actually made us two more on the house! Very happy.

On the feedback side: for a pretty empty bar, the toilets were quite messy and dirty. Also, I did see a review here that said they were told they are changing their menu which was 3 months ago and we were told the same thing yesterday. This means that more than half the menu wasn’t valid and they have used this excuse for a while. This was especially disappointing when we went in for the “sushi” molecular cocktail and they didn’t have it.

I have known MoMix for years and honestly believe they do great things; just need to wrap up the new menu and keep the toilets clean. Their team is great and the concept...
