I was having a beer at Vakoufi one afternoon when George — the owner — was sitting at a nearby table chatting with Saki, who owns this restaurant. George and I had met the day before, and he kindly introduced me to Saki so I wouldn’t feel left out of conversation, since I was at Vakoufi alone this time without my wife.
We had a great conversation, but eventually Saki had to leave. Later, when I went to settle my bill, George told me Saki had already paid for it. I was stunned! That’s the kind of person Saki is — warm, generous, and genuinely friendly. George then mentioned that Saki owned this restaurant, just a short walk up the hill from Vakoufi, near the fort.
Naturally, after such kindness my wife and I had to visit his restaurant — and we were not disappointed. It turned out to be the best meal we had in Kavala. Better than anything along the port, less expensive, and with far superior service. That’s because it’s Saki’s place, and like George, he’s one of the friendliest people you could hope to meet. The food was outstanding, and his hospitality even more so. George and Saki are cut from the same cloth — genuine, down to earth good people.
If you’re in Kavala, do yourself a favour and try Saki’s restaurant. I’m confident you’ll enjoy the excellent food and his company as much as we did.
Thank you, Saki, for the wonderful meal, your warm hospitality, and for picking up my tab earlier in the day. You’re a class act. We look forward to visiting again when our travels bring us back to Kavala. I don’t need Google for restaurant recommendations anymore — I already know...
Read moreRight across the Imaret, in place of the old Katsamaka Tavern, which is definitely closed, a new restaurant arose. Having Turkish traditional music, its vibes are not those of a Greek tavern. The menu looks amateurishly composed, incomplete and some of the items in it are not available.
On the other hand, there were enough vegetarian options, the staff is friendly, even though only the waiter seems to speak English. Fair prices, quick serving. Cosy place with inside and on the terrace tables. Dessert was offered freely, on the house.
P.S. Very appropriated for the cats lovers, as many of them roam on the...
Read moreWhat an extremely delicious experience! Lovely, cozy and quite affordable family owned restaurant. We had about 8 dishes among 3 people and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was extremely delicious (worth mentioning the baked aubergines, sarmalakia, shrimps, tigania..). You can see that the owners put a lot of soul in their food and it's just beautiful. Highly recommend it!! We loved it so much that we are already planning to eat there again, before leaving Kavala. Bonus: the lovely cats, of course....
