We easily walked over from our hotel kastraki after the sunset meteora tour around 7pm in late Oct and enjoyed prompt service and seating on the outdoor covered patio. Really loved the freshness of the greek salad and especially the feta block- so much yummier and less pungent than the crumbled feta you find in the US! The roasted eggplant dip was flavored and herbed sooo deliciously, we got toasted bread to accompany. Now I really wish we had gotten the tzatziki too cuz I'm sure it'd be great. Fresh orange juice was a beautiful deep orange color and tasty but sadly attracted flies to die in it, so drink that fast lol. Though the whole place smelled amazing cuz of the outdoor grill area, I thought the pork souvlaki w fries and the lamb ribs w fries were just ok- advertised to be tender as heck but actually were a bit chewy. Definitely no sous vide tender lol. I was honestly full after eating all the bread and amazing eggplant dip anyway so I cut up my leftover pork souvlaki and fed it to the super well behaved stray dogs who know to wander up to the guests and sit and yield for meaaat! Staff and owner seem to know the lovely dogs and all the guests were taking turns feeding them meat as well. Owner was grilling everything inside the grill area but came out and offered shots of raki (?) Oh god that stuff kills me I can't. Ambience was overall so great and fun from all this that I would come back and try ordering the roast chicken dishes that others rave about, then get more dishes, and maybe feed the...
Read moreThe location is nice, just a short walk away from the entrance to Meteora. The food prices were on the high side, but that's to be expected in a tourist area.
We ordered the Greek salad, saganaki (fried cheese), and a steak. The grandma took our order. I tried to tell her to hold the fries that comes with the steak. She didn't understand, so I pulled out my phone to show her Google translate, but she just patted my head and laughed. Salad and saganaki was decent, steak came out dry and on the small side. The fries, of course, came with it. More food for the stray cats and dogs I guess.
They charged 2 euros for water, which is double the legal standard in Greece, and more than all the other restaurants we visited.
When we tried to pay with a credit card, the grandma refused, insisting that we paid in cash. I reluctantly used up our last euro stash to pay. We didn't get a receipt, and my Greek friend told me later that according to Greek tax evasion law, we could have had the meal for free if we didn't get a printed a receipt.
Moreover, when I went to the bathroom, I noticed they were actually set up to accept credit cards, but chose not to so they can avoid paying taxes.
That put a damper in the entire experience, and kept me from giving it a better rating based on food...
Read moreAte here on our one night in Meteora. Great location with patio seating. Extremely reasonable pricing for home style Greek cooking with no pretentiousness normally found in tourist centric restaurants.
We had Greek salad and tzatziki with bread to start. Stuffed vegetables (peppers) and lamb ribs as our mains. Dessert was orange pie which was given on the house, very nice. Food was delicious, well seasoned, generous portions, and felt like something made in a family kitchen. Exactly what we were looking for on our last night out of our month long honeymoon in the Mediterranean.
Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Clearly management/owner has huge pride in their restaurant and food. Was awesome being able to see the food being grilled adjacent to the patio. All this at extremely reasonable prices. Service was above and beyond, I asked for a lighter/matches when leaving and at first they said they didn't have any. Before I left, the manager (owner?) approached and gave me a lighter to take with me. Service like this is indeed appreciated and very rare.
Can't recommend enough, you must go here while...
