Our travels around the Greek Easter holidays found us in the small village of Kastraki where we dined twice in a delightful & upscale restaurant & hotel.
This restaurant is a perfect example of a new approach on Greek classic recipes and refining them.
Wine list : compliments the food and so is the impressive selection of spirits (try the tsipouro)
Saturday : before Easter services we chose to enjoy the special menu crafted - so glad we did !
Mageiritsa : always something people are hesitant to try , but this was excellent. Perfect avgolemono with balance or dill and herbs and meat not heavy at all
Stuffed baby cabbage rolls with meat : super light and incredibly tight lemon sauce . No flour in sauce so gluten free!
Lamb bone in shank (cut down) : vegetables perfectly cooked & lamb incredibly tender. Having lived in Greece I know some foods are heavy on the oil but this dish was five star refined . Bravo to the chef on execution and presentation!
Owner offered a desert on the house : cream puffs profiteroles in dark chocolate !
Sunday :
We were so impressed by the quality of the food and the great service Saturday that we decided to also eat here again on Easter Sunday and try their standard menu .
-Cheese spread with grilled bread -Greek salad with local feta cheese -Lamb picanha with fingerling potatoes and baby carrots : it is the equivalent of a lamb filet medium well prepared . Juicy and delicious Couple glasses of wine and tsipouro and Easter dinner was perfect !
Owner offered a desert on the house again ! This time it was a panacotta with hazelnuts and salted caramel . Awesome end to the dinner !
Dietary restrictions: staff and chef are well informed on gluten free sensitivities and can accommodate accordingly. Highly praised from us!
Parking : easily available in the front , on the side street where restaurant is located . We did not have any problem finding an easy parking spot .
One can tell love , dedication , great work & effort put forth by the owner into this restaurant and hotel location . What a hidden gem in the small village of Kastraki ! I look forward to return whenever I am in...
Read moreThere are quite a few good tavernas in Kastraki, some have been in the family for three generations and they excel at traditional Greek meals and generous portion sizes. We have dined at three of them. But tonight we felt like something different and we were very happy to find Senses. We would describe it as "modern Greek". We loved the fried feta with mandarin sauce, hazelnuts and black sesame. We followed that with a mushroom risotto and a fillet of grilled salmon with vegetables. It was all delicious, and the service was friendly...
Read moreWe arrived for dinner, the place creates a pleasant and elegant atmosphere, the staff is pleasant and kind. We ordered a salad with blue cheese, very tasty and the ingredients are fresh, two very tasty hamburger dishes, a very tasty pasta dish, we received bread with locally made cheese at the expense of the house and for dessert a chocolate soufflé with ice cream, to drink a soft drink x2 and a beer. The final bill was 63 euros, not including the dessert that was on the house's bill, just very tasty and...
