After receiving negative feedback from friends and locals about this establishment, we decided to visit it ourselves to form our own opinion.
Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The service was very slow from the beginning, which is understandable at times.
When ordering our food, we were asked if we wanted tomato or cream sauce with our pasta dish, which was great as my partner does not like tomato-based pasta, and the menu did not specify which sauce was used.
After waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes, our food arrived, and the pasta dish was tomato-based. My partner asked the waiter about this, and they went to check. They returned and insisted that the sauce was cream-based, so my partner tasted it and confirmed that it was indeed tomato-based.
We informed the owner of the situation, and he became quite agitated. He brought the bottle of sauce used to our table and began shouting at my partner, insisting that it was cream sauce. The bottle was an old water bottle filled with bright red sauce, and it appeared to be quite dirty, which raised concerns about hygiene.
Despite our attempts to clarify the situation, the owner continued to shout and became increasingly aggressive. He eventually removed my partner's plate and told him to leave the establishment. The other staff members appeared visibly uncomfortable and apologetic, expressing their inability to address the situation due to the owner's involvement.
While we waited for the bill, several other guests observed the incident, and some even approached us to inquire about our well-being. Despite having barely touched my own meal, I felt compelled to depart.
Two additional guests corroborated our request for a cream-based sauce.
The owner declined to provide a new knife and fork to the table next to us when they requested it for their main course.
My meal lacked the accompanying salad, and the bread was excessively dry and crumbly, rendering it virtually inedible.
The restaurant's scenic views serve as the primary attraction for customers.
Subsequent discussions with local residents following these exceptionally unpleasant and unsavoury experiences revealed that the owner's behaviour is consistent with a pattern of mental instability.
Given the subpar food quality and deplorable service, it is evident that the individual in question is unfit to operate a business.

Read moreIf you are ever visit Elounda then I recommend going out for lunch or dinner at Vrtomartes. It is not difficult to find the restaurant since it is located near the center of Elounda. When it comes to seafood I recommend ordering their pastas as they taste absolutely amazing, but in case if you have any allergies for shellfish then don’t worry they also have plenty of meat dishes to choose from the menu as well. Also I recommend sitting not at the front of the restaurant, but far back of the restaurant that way you can get an absolutely beautiful view of the sea & boats from a distance. I also want to include that the hard working waiters and waitresses are extremely polite, friendly and hospitable and the service is usually efficient. Just so you know the prices are medium as they are reasonable also if you like to indulge a nice glass or bottle of wine then you are in luck, because there is also a good selection of wine. However be aware some of the bottles of wine can be overpriced. Since the restaurant is very popular especially during summer time I do recommend making a reservation ahead of time especially during the evenings just to be safe therefore you won’t have to wait too long to be seated. I have to say after many, many years of dining experience at Vritomartes I have been rarely disappointed or had any bad experience so I will definitely be coming back for many more times. Therefore I wish you an amazing dining experience at...
Read moreWe had some doubts going to this restaurant, very large menu with a member of staff who comes to accost you to enter, we thought of a tourist trap and finally we were pleasantly surprised! The octopus was very good, the crab ravioli with tomato sauce delicious, and the black linguine with salmon sublime. Do not hesitate to have a little raki with Ben at the end of the meal if you are lucky enough to have him as a server, your evening can only be even better! Only downside, the dishes arrived when we had not finished the entry ... we did not blame them, I think it was a small isolated error because the restaurant was full and the rest of the meal went wonderfully! And then they made up for it with two homemade chocolate dessert...
