We came here because the reviews online were good and our Airbnb host recommended it. We have left extremely disappointed, shocked, and frustrated. I am really not one to leave a bad review but this is a noteworthy poor experience. We ordered 2 starters, one arrived quickly, the second one took about 30 min (after asking 3 times) and all it was was a sort of cheese that just needed to be scooped on a plate. Then after 20 minutes we got the main course but only one of the two. They had forgotten about the second one (the waitress who took our order hadn’t put it on the ticket) and we reminded them again 3 times (it arrived about 20 minutes later). The fries were awful and extremely under cooked. To top this extremely slow service, we paid extra than what was indicated on the menu. As they have no POS and calculate everything mentally, we asked them to go over it again as I noticed he was not writing the same price as the menu and then the waiter started getting really angry and rude at us, raising his voice and saying that he doesn’t have time for this and we can just take the money out of the till if we wanted. They proceeded by shoving coins in our face when all we had done was to politely ask them to go over the calculations again as it didn’t match the menu. Many other tables waiting a long time for food and many people visibly frustrated. Would not recommend this restaurant at all, worst service and...
Read moreChrisomalis is a small taverna known for the traditional food. Corfiot dishes like sofrito (veal with a white sauce of herbs, parsley and garlic served with fries usually), bourdeto (fish stew) and pastitsada (rooster or beef with red sauce served with pasta with a hole, like bucatini) are considered a must. My utmost favorite is the sofrito. This taverna is a humble little place sitting very centrally in the old town just behind the Liston. We were there for Easter but for five days we couldn't find a table even though they are open from noon to late night. They don't take reservations and they have 10 tables outside and another ten inside. Outside is the best when the weather is friendly. In order not to leave the island without trying their food, I decided to take action. So on our last day before heading to the port I went bravely(!) inside and bought two portions of sofrito to go (9,50 euros each). We had our own special corfiot lunch on the ferry boat on our way back home! And it...
Read moreAt first, the waiter appeared without presenting a menu, ready to take my order. The white wine he recommended as cold, was rarher warmish. After 20 minutes of waiting for my dish, while many other guests got their food, I got mine served with a salad: 3 small pieces of tomato & a couple of completely dry out cucumber pieces. No joke. In order to make the things "better" the waiter started to ask me where I came from, once I finished eating. No "thank you", no eye contact, no nothing. After I told him I'm from Berlin, he asked me if I believe in Covid or if it was perhaps a propaganda. Clearly disappointed about my answer (yes, I believe that the virus exists) the guy finally brought me the bill. Again, avoiding any human contact. The food was average.
I don't...
