We came here after most of the other restaurants were busy since a few ships were in port. Looking for good greek gyros, this was the closest place we could find.
The biggest issue was that we came in to sit indoors and the manager came running over asking for our vaccine cards. We showed her all of our CDC official cards and said no they don't accept that since they needed a barcode to scan (this is not a requirement as stated on the american greece embassy). So because of this we were forced to get take-out.
We ordered some simple greek gyros and it was kind of bland. In fact, I wasn't even sure it was chicken - it tasted more like beef. They also added french fries on it and the usual veggies however the whole thing just tasted a bit bland. Would not recommend especially since there are a bunch of other options in the area.
EDIT (In response to the owner below): You are completely incorrect and clearly don't read the latest rules. This is an excerpt from the greek US Embassy "Customers seeking entry for indoor seating in restaurants and cafes, as well as all areas of nightclubs and bars must present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or documentation of recovery from COVID-19. The Tourism Ministry has clarified by press release that individuals vaccinated in countries that do not belong to the European Certificate program may enter these businesses by presenting their printed or electronic vaccination certificate. The CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card documenting COVID-19 vaccination for many U.S. travelers should be accepted". You need to be well educated being a business in a tourist area especially with folks looking to dine in that are not from the...
Read morePitta Pappou is an absolute gem in the heart of the island's capital! Based on the glowing reviews I received, I had to experience it for myself, and let me tell you, it exceeded all expectations.
The praise for their Pita is well-deserved; it truly is the best I've ever had in my life. The charming little spot boasts a fantastic vegetarian selection that's both affordable and incredibly tasty. I recommend it to anyone passing by!
The Gyros Pita is another standout item, with reviewers suggesting that the 15-30 minute wait is more than worth it. The combination of flavors in the Clubsandwich and the Cheese and Bacon Fries is unparalleled.
During my week-long stay, I couldn't resist dining there five times, experimenting with various combinations, and each one was a flavor explosion. The Burger Beef variant, in addition to the pork and chicken options, was a personal favorite.
The Hähnchen Pita (chicken pita) left a lasting impression not just for its incredible taste but also for its unbeatable affordability. Securing a table immediately upon arrival is a stroke of luck, as most patrons willingly wait 5-10 minutes for a chance to sit. The value for money is further highlighted by a 1.5L bottle of Cola priced at just €3.50.
Without a doubt, I will be revisiting Pitta Pappou during my stay; it's a culinary experience that...
Read moreWas looking for a great place to have vegetarian pita wrap and I found it! Best pita I have ever had.
This place is great, a huge menu (options for meat and veggie) and quick and polite service. The portions are very generous, fresh and extremely good value. I had the halloumi pita in the larger size and had absolutely loads of filling without being over the top.
This is a great place with a very friendly welcome (from I assume the owner?), on a hot and busy day that welcomed us in and made sure we were able to get a seat.
If you need a quick bite this is the place to go. Especially good as off the main streets so feels a little more...
