Satisfactory. The waiter seemed more enthusiastic about his job and friendly, and he also understood more English than the waitresses. They kept frowning and spent a lot of time chatting together
There were some miscommunication issues, for example when we asked for a box or doggy bag to take the leftovers they said yes then collected the dishes and did not give us the leftovers. The worst was when we ordered a Fanta Orange and the waitress gave us a Fanta Blue which our 9 year old opened before realising it was the wrong item. Waitress explained she only had Fanta Blue. We said we did not want it and ordered another drink. She did not take it so I went up to the back and returned it to the manager. At the end they tried charging us for it arguing that we had opened it. The manager was more sensible and ended the argument by agreeing to void it. He actually seemed quite friendly so it was a shame he did not have much involvement with customers other than taking payment at the end.
The food was quite good. My order was reheated from frozen but their menu makes you aware of that, which is fair. There was a hair in the bread (photo shows it after my daughter pulled it out of the bread, definitely not ours as the kids and partner are all blonde and my hair is too short!). The restaurant was not expensive but there are better ones cheaper nearby. Overall the experience was alright but not something I would...
Read moreedit: the swordfish definitely gave me food poisoning. Maybe it's a one off experience and I was unlucky, but overall they aren't serving quality food
I don't get the high reviews for this place. It's ok. The food is not bad but not especially wonderful. The swordfish tasted a bit old. Fried calamari and mushrooms were pretty good. House red wine is not that good. Greek salad was average but they just bring two little 'to-go' cups of olive oil and vinegar to dress it instead of having bottles on the table and they are a skimpy on the feta. All in all, it's just ok food at an ok price (given the beachfront location. It's not cheap), but I wouldn't come here with high expectations.
Besides the oil and vinegar there were a few minor annoyances. They won't serve you tap water. The wait staff is terse which is whatever, but they do things differently here compared to the restaurants that I've been to in Chania and they don't explain that and look at you like an idiot when you assume things will be the same. So they don't bring bread to the table (which means no table cover charge). They also will bring you raki and desert but only after you ask for the check. Not a big deal overall but confusing.
That said, the menu has some good variety and they have great looking pictures on the menu so you'll want to...
Read moreAbsolutely great Greek cuisine if you like it ! It is located by the beach, close to the old part of Chania. Every single table has a view on the sea. The interior looks like a traditional Greek tavern, in blue and white colours. From speakers flows of course Greek music. But the most important is the cuisine. For seven days we tasted nearly all the dishes from the menu. We are nor experts in Cretian cuisine but all we ate were tasty. Beginning with the starters like marinated sardines, domades (grapes leaves staffed with rise), fried anchovies through the sea foods like grilled squids or an octopus and ending with main dishes like musaka or my favourite mussels saganaki. All what we got was really good. We can’t forget about traditional Greek and Cretian salads made from frech, spring vegetables. And oll of these with local, cold home wine. To sum up, if you want to taste good Cretian cuisine, to meet kind owners who help you with choice and to drink rakija, a kind of spirit which is served at the end of a meal you must visit this place ! Pawel and Joanna,...
