It’s such a shame that great restaurant that served some wonderful food is let down by poor service! We came here on a Sunday evening and found Kritamon. We had a nice little table around the corner out of the way of the busy back streets and near the kitchen. To start with, the service was really good as we ordered still water, a salad and some bread and olives for starters followed by our main food order, which was swiftly taken. Unfortunately the bread and olives never arrived with starters, but we thought this may be an oversight and it may arrive with our main course. For mains we ordered the lamb with risotto rice and a steak served with grilled vegetables. The food was absolutely fantastic, zero complaints whatsoever and did arrive within a good time. However this is when things started to go downhill as once we had finished our main courses, our plates weren’t cleared away and were left on our table for roughly 25 minutes, nobody came over during this time to ask if the food was okay or whether we’d like any desserts. Once we eventually flagged down a waiter who took our plates, we asked for the bill which charged us for the bread and olives that we never had. Once I pointed this out to the waiter, this was taken off our bill and we settled up. Great food, shame about the service.

We chose to dine here based on the many positive reviews, hoping for a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, our visit did not meet expectations. The evening started with four small slices of “German-style” sourdough bread, which felt underwhelming. I requested a replacement, which was provided, but still didn’t improve the experience. The main course, particularly the octopus, was overpriced for its quality. In one of the side dishes, I encountered a large chunk of salt—about the size of an olive pit—which was casually dismissed by staff with a simple, “Yes, it’s salt.” Thankfully, no harm was done, but the lack of concern was disappointing. Overall, the food lacked flavor and character—it simply felt uninspired. The wine was decent, though given the setting, I expected more from the winery. The bill came to €76 for two people, including the initial bread and replacement pita, which added to the sense of being overcharged. While the setting may appeal to tourists, the food and service did not reflect the same level of care. There are certainly better options in the area that offer better quality and value. Sadly, this is not a place I would return to or recommend.

A great slightly secluded wine restaurant in the old town of Chania. Easy to find if you take off from the harbor and up into the city. Great menu and wine list. For lunch we chose a small plate of cheese and a plate of various cold cuts. This was a decent and simple lunch for two. The combination tasted excellent. Wine was selected by the glass and not the bottle. Two different wines for each with a nice variety and taste that went perfectly with the food. The waiters were attentive and provided top service and explained both about the food and the wine. The only downside was that it took a while for the food to arrive, but when you're looking forward to something good, time is of the essence. There were a lot of guests, that might explain it all. Highly recommended when in Chania. We will be back.

Visited this place for lunch today. Were given menues with pictures only, no prices and no text. The waiter who waited our tabel were very pushy. Gave us about a minute before he more or less decided for us that my wife an I were having the fish and our daughter some chicken and fries dish. We said ok to the fish under the condision that there werent a lot of bones in this snapper fish. When he left he said something about tsaltziki and ran off. When we got the food the fish were full of bones and the chicken was dry. We also got tzaltziki and garlic breed that we did not order. We thought this was the extra service we are used to by the kind greek people. When we asked to pay. They just waited new tabeles again and again and were in no hurry. After a while we got tired of waiting and I went over to the menues to find out what we owed them. Then the waiter reacted and said he would bring the bill. When he did he really made me angry. The bread we did not order were charged 4.5 euros X3 + 3.8 for the tsaltziki. Thats 17,3 for food we did not order. Then the price for the rest were absolutely halerious! A simple lunch for 3 person. 89 euros. Thats crazy!!!! By comparesing we had a meze( greek tapas) on monday evening in Rustic Garden 4,5 star resturant in Agia Marina with 6 incredible dishes. 2 desserts Panna Cotta. We ate like kings and queens. We had 2 beers, 1 big water, 1 Cosmopolitan, 1 200ml raki and 3 Pina Coladas. The price were 118 euros. We dined for 3 hours.

Overall we were disappointed with the food offer based on the good reviews this restaurant had received online which had encouraged us to go. But starting on a positive note it was an overall pleasant experience with friendly staff and a nice seating area at the front of the restaurant right on the street and good for people watching. Unfortunately the food was average. My husband experienced a sharp large bone in the meat croquettes for starters which didn’t get us off to a good start. The waitress apologised but nothing more than that was offered. For mains my husband’s risotto was average at best and the moussaka I ordered could only be described as ‘fine’. It was a large portion so even though I ate half of it, it looked like I hadn’t eaten much. Back to a more positive note the local red Cretan wine the waitress recommended was easy to drink and a reasonable price. Unfortunately a Greek salad that we ordered with our mains never arrived but was still on the bill when we went to pay. Staff apologised and removed but if I hadn’t asked them to translate the bill we would be none the wiser. In a week spent trying different restaurants around Chania this unfortunately was ranked low in our...
