Someone call the αστυνομία! I’ve just been robbed! I sussed out this place tucked away from the more touristy area earlier today while I was having a recci finding a place to have my last meal before getting the bus to the airport and then home to UK. Looking at the menu, it looked like a really nice family run home cooked food place so I came back at 18.00 eagerly anticipating the last meal of my holiday. No one else was there and the manager/owner insisted I come to the kitchen so she could show me her ‘specials’. There were 3 large full tubs of beef stifado, moussaka and lamb and potatoes which she suggested would be the best option. So far so good. Always a good sign to get invited to see before you buy so I chose to have the lamb. I asked for Cretan salad (€8.50) as a starter which duly arrived followed very quickly by a ‘side’ plate of the lamb and potatoes. Not ideal, but I batted on eating both courses at the same time aided by a carafe of red wine which actually looked more like rosé. Not great, but only €5 for 500ml so no worries. A small piece of cake arrived ‘on the house’ but, unlike other reviewers, and, in fact, unlike all the other restaurants I’d dined in this week, no raki 😟 I was shocked when the bill came - €37.50! I’d been charged €20 for the side plate of lamb which was virtually double what I’d been paying for similar meals all week. I queried it with her and was advised by her teenaged son, who spoke better English, that it was a ‘special’. I suggested to him that in future maybe he would do well to advise the price to their customers beforehand. There was no board with these meals on and I feel totally had. I thought this kind of behaviour died out years ago and I find it particularly sad that her teenage son is being brought up to believe this is how to treat their foreign visitors. After some discussion they gave me the wine so I ended up paying €31 which was still an expensive meal for what I had, and particularly when put alongside the other meals I’ve had this week. I didn’t bother asking what the €1 charge was for. Maybe it was the entertainment from the two little birds that were trying to pinch my tea. Anyway, I just feel taken advantage of. To cap it off, I actually added my bill up later on the flight home and even with the ridiculously priced lamb and potato, it actually totalled €34.50 so they either can't add up or chose to whack service charge on aswell without telling me. Moral of the story? Always ask the price first and ensure your rucksack is out of sight so they don’t know you’ve just arrived or, in my case, just going. Fed up, I am. Left a nasty bitter taste in my mouth at the end of a great...
Read moreWe saw this nice looking restaurant when passing an alley so decided to take a seat as a couple just left. By the time we didn’t know that we will have the worst experience of hospitality in whole Greece. We ordered Cretan salad (it was warm), Boujourdi (tasted like canned tomatoes with rubber), Saganaki prawn and a house wine. I asked the waiter if the Saganaki prawn comes with any side dish or we have to order by ourselfes, he sad yes comes with salad. It didn’t. So after 10 minutes when he finally noticed me I told him to bring the salad as it was promised, but nothing happened after another 10 minutes. I asked for abotger house wine as well. Then he brought some lettuce with cucumber (warmish) and an almost hot wine. I told him that it’s warm, to please bring me a cold one. After we finished with the food another waiter took all the plates and brought the bill, but we never asked for it and we didn’t even finish the wine yet! As we saw all other guests received a dessert, but we didn’t!!! The waiter came again after 5 minutes if it’s ok ( I guess she ment why I’m not paying yet), I told her it’s not really ok. Then an older man came to our table and asked the same question and I told him the same answer, he replied: THEN DON’T COME HERE AGAIN!!! YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!! We couldn’t belive our ears! After paying the bill I asked the older man if he is the owner or if not can I talk to the owner, he said that he is not, and the owner is not here and once again told us that WE SHOULD NOT COME HERE AGAIN!!! So I can only echo his words; please don’t go to Argo!!! There are only better places...
Read moreHorrifying, unhygienic restaurant. Dont go here. We only sat here because it was a Saturday night and it was impossible to get a table elsewhere. The owners gave us a table they were originally sitting at, it was dirty and was full of cigarette ash. The waitress had extremely long finger nails which were dirty, this made me lose my appetite. I looked into the kitchen and the “chef” was completely unhygienic and unpresentable. The male owners were rude, unwelcoming and arrogant. They were smoking right next to patrons. All the staff were yelling at each other.
We ordered a Greek salad, moussaka and prawn saganaki.
The Greek salad tasted strange and the ingredients were old and dry.
The moussaka looked like it had been frozen and reheated multiple times - the “bechamel” on top was pale in colour and rock hard, it didn’t move when trying to move it with a knife. The mince was a grey colour, as if it had been boiled.
The prawn saganaki was not saganaki, there were 3 prawns on a plate and they were charred to a crisp.
We said we were sick, paid and left without eating. I heard the owner say in Greek to the waitress that they could re-warm the prawns to serve to someone else.
I also overheard the owner not allowing someone to pay with card.
Lost our appetite because of the disgusting plates and presentation of the restaurant and ended up going to a gyro stand.
Dont go here, you’ll be disappointed and will likely get...
