During our stay in Crete, we had the pleasure of dining at Marias Taverna, a charming restaurant located along the road. Although it isn't situated on the seafront, the surrounding plants and trees create a delightful atmosphere that makes you feel pleasantly secluded from the nearby traffic. The ambiance was further enhanced by the soothing sounds of traditional Greek music playing in the background, setting the perfect mood for a relaxing meal. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. For our meal, we decided to sample a variety of appetisers, including snails, fried cheese, fried courgette flowers, prawns with tomatoes and cheese, and pastries filled with spinach and cheese. Each dish offered a unique taste of Greek cuisine. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the snails, though I believe it's more a matter of personal taste since they're prepared traditionally. My boyfriend, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed them. For the main course, we opted for goat meat and moussaka. Both dishes were exceptional, but the moussaka, in particular, stood outāit was easily the best I've ever had and left a lasting impression. To accompany our meal, we had a litre of the house white wine, which I found to be a bit too dry for my liking, alongside some soft drinks and a couple of bottles of water. The total bill came to ā¬83.70, which we found quite reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food. As a sweet gesture, when we requested the bill, we were treated to strawberry ice cream for everyone, along with fresh watermelon and some rakia, all on the house.Overall, it was an amazing dinner experience at Marias Taverna. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was charming, and the service was excellent. I can't stop thinking about that moussakaāit might just be the best...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI give one star because it is not possible less . Waiting time an hour, they just want to take clients without caring . Attitude of the waiters is super unpleasant, the one of the owner even moreā¦food below the standard of Greek food. Super cooked pasta. They are lucky that there are few non-tourist Greek restaurants in the area. You can't tell them that the service was bad for waiting an hour, that they bring you the wrong food, that one has to dinner alone and then the other person also alone... no apologizes , all they say is that there are many restaurants in the area so you donāt have to come back and that almost everybody is happy. They got very aggressive . Very bad experience in general , I see an old comment of how they treat their dog and I am so sorry that I didnāt have a look on the comments in avance . I donāt like to give one single euro to a person who takes that bad care of his own dog , this people lives like 100 years...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the lamb with mushrooms and sauce, The lamb was mostly bone and fat, and a small portion of meat. Chips were just cut up, potatoes deep fried. Sauce was OK. The Mrs had the Greek plate, and the full dish was bland. The main problem was that the moussaka had no meat in it at all. The waiter grabbed the plate and took it back to the kitchen without saying a word. We waited around 10 minutes for the food to come back to the table. When it did return, half of the plate was cold. When we complained and said we would not pay for the dish, we were told we had to because they fixed the meat problem. She did not want to eat on her own as i had already finished, so we refused to pay for it. Upon hearing this, we were told to pay for the other dish and drinks, which was fine, and we were told not to come back to the restaurant. Which we don't plan on doing. Rude...
