Veranda — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

Wow, this place was terrible. It does, indeed, look over the square(pictured), so a plus for truth in advertising.

They have a separate vegan menu so I was excited to try it. However, their only sauce is plain vegan mayo. I was able to order ketchup and hot sauce for .90 euro each, but it sadly did not help the food.

I ordered a falafel appetizer and fries (pictured). I could barely cut through the falafel as it was hard as a rock. The fries were no better, dried out, hard and had a funny flavor.

Everything was fairly expensive, and the ambiance reminded me of a truck stop bathroom. Why? They had no fewer than three auto-sprayers of room freshener at our table, pointed at our faces. I turned them all facing away so it would give us some peace.

Between that and the chain smoker at next table, I felt ill before the food...

The best service I have encountered in Greece and I have been to Athens, Naxos, Mikonos and now Crete. But to be frank, the other restaurants I have been to lowered the bar pretty low when it came to good service. This is the only restaurant in Greece that actually cleared the table from our plates once we were done eating. Nice atmosphere. Good music. Friendly staff. I wasn’t able to add tip using my credit card so that was a bit disappointing. The food is quiet mediocre. I ordered a traditional Greek dish pasticcio thinking I will get a special dish. It seemed like it was cut from a tray and not very fresh. My friend ordered the chicken veranda dish and the sauce was quiet...

I cant make a 0 out of 5. The worst service i ever experienced. I order a pork fillet and its no description just a picture. The food comes out and my girlfriend gets rice instead of fries on the picture. I dont get tzatziki but it shows on the picture. I ask polite if its possible to get some. The first lady says yes.. 5 min and nothing happens.. then the waiter comes and i asked again. I have to order for 7€. I show the picture when we pay. ”Oh, thats and old picture” and charges me anyway. So if you wanna go to a place and have to ask about every dish what you get.. THIS IS THE PERFECT SPOT.
