Kirkór (Bougatsa) — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

Apparently in 2022 this place will be serving bougatsa continuously for a whole century (since 1922). While I cannot vouch for all of these years, the last 40 or so i can only say that traveling to and from Crete without stopping to KirKor for a cheese bougatsa topped with sugar & cinnamon is like “having a long needed good night call on a laggy Skype connection”. To cut the long story short i have the fondest memories with this bougatsa and my taste buds are always triggered just with the thought of this place. Mind due that I am referring only to the trademark recipe, bougatsa (cheese or cream-filled), since the rest of the offerings including cheese pies and coffee’s are just as good as the rest of the establishments around. This place has been serving the BEST bougatsa since 1922 — flaky, warm, and absolutely unforgettable. The traditional Greek coffee is rich and aromatic, and their frappe is spot-on perfection.

We kept coming back here during our Heraklion stay since the sweets are so good. What attracted us here were recommendations of our friends, the fact this is the oldest bougatsa store here and our wish to try something authentic. What kept us coming back was the sweet semolina cream pie with vanilla ice cream on the top. It’s so good! Traditional semolina pie and bougatsa with honey and nuts are also amazing.
