We came as a couple for dinner. It was very quiet and we didn’t need or have a reservation.
La Trattoria is based down a quiet backstreet and away from the seafront. Restaurants like this can often be the hidden gems where locals frequent. It was priced at the higher end of what you pay in Kos City.
The service was poor. The young male waiter had virtually no comprehension of Greek or English and was limited to gesticulation. He couldn’t understand ‘large beer’ nor could he explain that they only had small bottles and no draught option. He attempted to serve our mains to the only other table that was seated and where the patrons had not even ordered yet. He forgot to bring out a plate of grilled vegetables with our mains. When it arrived, they were lukewarm at best. When going up to pay (card payments are at the till only) I was waiting for 5 minutes to pay in a virtually empty restaurant, with staff walking past who didn’t acknowledge or even give a “I’ll be with you in a minute”. Just felt strange.
The food was mediocre. We ordered pizzas. Finishing a pizza with olive oil can enhance it, especially on the crust. These pizzas arrived to the table not finished with oil, but drowning in it. One of the pizzas had an overcooked base. This was not just slightly overdone, it was quite difficult to cut and to bite. The other pizza was fine. There are better pizza places in the locale. Cost isn’t a consideration for me when finding a place to eat; having said this, my meal at La Trattoria wasn’t value for money.
For an otherwise well-reviewed place, it felt like an expensive disappointment. Potentially this was an off-day at the end of a long season. For the English readers… it’s the kind of place where you get to the end of the meal and you think: ‘that was a bit average’. When asked if everything was good by the owner, you can’t be bothered to get in to it and just want to leave without the drama. You’re on holiday after all.
Having now seen how the owner has decided to represent herself in responses to Google reviews, I’d suggest that was...
Read moreThere are only a few places in life you can find that combine excellent food, deep love for their work and amazing, authentic atmosphere. This is one of them. Raffaella, her amazing husband and her staff warm your heart with stories about their products, their plans, their recipes. The food they serve is like them: truly italian, full of love and passion. Pinsa is excellent, the fresh home made pasta is amazing, the desserts are unbelievable (i am Italian so I can be picky. Also, i know what I am talking about). Don't miss out on their pesto, it comes directly from Italy. Portions are perfect. Overall, excellent service, it really felt like a great evening among friends in Italy. I sincerely wish them all the best and hope to see them again. They deserve...
