The Best Taverna in Mykonos – A Hidden Gem You’ll Never Forget
If you’re looking for an authentic Greek dining experience in Mykonos, this is the place. After traveling through the Cyclades and dining at dozens of restaurants, I can confidently say this is the best taverna on the island — not just for the food, but for the heart behind it.
The owner, Yanas, is a true legend. He’s been cooking and running this place himself for over 21 years, and it shows in every detail. He doesn’t just own the restaurant — he cooks every dish and serves every table with a grace and professionalism that’s rare to find. You immediately feel like you’re in the hands of someone who truly cares.
What makes this place unique is the absolute commitment to local products. Every ingredient has a story. The meat and chicken come from nearby islands, the potatoes are brought in fresh, the feta cheese is from a small local producer, and everything — absolutely everything — is Greek and fresh. You can taste the quality in every bite. It’s traditional, honest food done to perfection.
We had the grilled meats, the homemade fries (possibly the best we’ve ever had), and a fresh Greek salad that reminded us what a real tomato tastes like. The portions are generous, the flavors are deep, and nothing feels rushed or touristy.
On top of that, the prices are more than fair — great value for Mykonos, which can often be overpriced and underwhelming. But not here. Here you feel like you’re discovering something real, something that hasn’t been swallowed by trends or social media hype.
Yanas is kind, calm, and genuinely welcoming. You see him move from kitchen to table with joy, bringing plates and making sure everyone is happy. That kind of energy makes the whole meal feel like a gift.

Read moreHard to figure out where to begin this review! Is it the beautiful husband and wife owners we met or the incredible food we ate at this “locals” restaurant (no need to dress fancy at this place)? Based on great reviews from previous posters, my wife and I decided to eat dinner at Masa Hapsa (it’s tucked in the back so you won’t see it on the main road) during one of our four days in Mykonos. Despite a slight language barrier, he took us back into the kitchen and introduced us to his “lovely wife” and showed us the homemade pizza and other dishes that were being prepared. It was quickly evident to us that this couple takes pride in their restaurant and I would rank our night out as one of the best dinner experiences we have ever had. I could suggest all the food we ordered but, judging by the dishes I saw other people eating, I don’t think you can go wrong with any option (although I would say you have to get at least one pizza as part of the order or take it to go for the next day at the beach!!!). The craziest part of it all is that the total bill (a few🍺 included and a couple shots of Mastika “on the house”😉) was less than the price you might pay for a single cocktail at the old port. We gave them a very generous tip based on what my wife and I would have paid for this meal in our home country of 🇨🇦. Thanks again to all previous posters who guided us toward this...
