In an era where women were not very public figures, let alone an independent and inspirational figure as Manto, for Mykonos she was a heroine obviously!!! Commanding prime position in the center of the main square and entrance to the city by water, a figure every one can notice, spending all here fortune for the Hellenic cause, on the Greek War for Independence.

Mikonos es un precioso lugar que merece la pena ser visitado al menos una vez en la vida. Su puerto antiguo, y sus calles estrechas que van ascendiendo por la ladera del cerro dónde se ubica, están llenas de tiendas para turistas. Muchas de ellas de firmas de superlujo, otras con los típicos recuerdos de unos pocos euros y también de infinidad de bares, restaurantes y rincones donde apetece sacar la cámara y hacer algunas fotografías. En la zona alta, el viajero encontrará pequeños hoteles con encanto, algunos apartamentos lujosos y viviendas de la población local. Como el resto de las islas más visitadas y famosas y de Grecia, es muy recomendable acudir en temporada alta y especialmente en aquellos días en los que hay previsto atraque de cruceros. En esos días las calles se llenan hasta tal punto de turistas de cuarto de hora qué dan ganas de marcharse lo antes posible.

Statue is probably more suitable as a landmark than anything else. Statue itself is lovely but the marking and carving itself is fading sadly. That said, it’s in a lovely area of Mykonos so there is always the port to look at!!!

My wife and I visited this square and had a look at this statue wondering who was her and why the people of Mykonos decided to set a statue of her here.
